State legislators said yesterday that Virginia is facing an immigration crisis on par with Arizona and New Mexico and urged Gov. Mark Warner to declare an emergency like the governors of those two states did last week.
"If New Mexico and Arizona qualify, certainly Northern Virginia would," the Fairfax County Republican said.
"The amount of money that we are spending on illegal aliens is monstrous. Any way that we can get the federal government to help us fix the problem they've created I'm sure would go over 100 percent with 100 percent approval from the caucus."

Well, remember Mark Warner is a democrat, albeight he is not as bad as I thought when I voted against him except for the inevitable 20% tax increase on food and clothing..
So, who knows. Pisses me off I gotta pay for this crap every day when I am getting ready to send my children to college and pay for health insurance, etc. Just paid property taxes - 40% increase over last year. Somethings gotta give. I think it will be Jerry Kilgore. He has my two votes wrapped up already.

And still, Pretty Boy Perry dithers in Texas, while billions of our tax dollars go to trying to educate the aboriginals flooding across the border, delivering more of them in our hospitals, and jailing thousands of them for crimes they have committed on our citizens. He just doesn't see a problem. I will never vote for that turkey again.
By the way, every state ought to follow New Mexico and Arizona's lead in declaring an illegal alien emergency. That might get the President's attention.

As for Mark Warner being "not so bad" you just have to realize that the tax increase is THE ONLY THING HE'S ACCOMPLISHED!!!!!
This is a duplicitous statement...
Allow me to explain.
By saying "any way that we can get (additional federal dollars) to fix the problem that they've (federal government) created" ALSO MEANS...
The states are paying more for those who live in the states because of the formula change in the Bush budget (and Clinton's earlier 'welfare reform') that reduces federal compensation to the states and requires the states to fund more of their social programs themselves.
And, thus, the states are having to come up with more money and/or to reduce social programs and/or some combination of both BUT it is also exacerbated by illegal aliens who are causing greater expenditures to support their increasing numbers in all our states.
However, the statements being made by the Democrats can be and probably are indications that they want to reinstate the funding FROM THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT to their various needs that have been since reduced, if not removed, and they can use the "illegal alien" thing to do so. AND it can mean, and probably does, that they're again going to insist on increased budgets, increased federal funding, etc., to recreate a lot of what's recently been removed, reduced, unduing a lot of budgetary changes.
Increased federal funding to states does not mean that they're going to necessarily do anything to stop the flood of illegal aliens, or even reduce the numbers. It only means that they'll have more money to devote to various county budgets (probably) who are now screaming about reduced social program funds.
I'd REALLY like to see a published accounting of these respective emergency funds, how they're spent by whom and how it impacts (to any degree) the illegal alien and border security issues because, otherwise, ALL INCREASED FUNDING to states is going to create is MORE INCENTIVE FOR MORE ILLEGAL ALIENS to situate in those states.
As in, more free stuff for more illegal aliens. UNLESS there's an concerted plan to use the monies to reduce and prevent illegal aliens nationwide/in states declaring emergencies, they are only going to accomplish increased funding for bigger social programs and more helps (free stuff) to illegal aliens.

I am guilty of reading only the excerpt. Love your photo of Mark!!. One day my son and I were walking through Old Town Alexandria and who was walking in front of us? Yes, our beloved governor. The dude must be 8 feet tall. My son quickened his pace, pulled up beside him and took a good gander. Also you forgot his other accomplishment, putting a hold on the elimination of the car tax.
IMHO, it's to force him to take a stand on the issue, which he doesn't want to do.
It helps draw a distinction between his buddy, liberal squish Tim Kaine and the REAL candidate for Governor, Jerry Kilgore.

I constantly wonder the same thing. A lot of this going on these days. Newt and Hillary, Mcain and Kennedy, what gives? I know what gives. The elite are looking after themselves and themselves only. The rest of us be damned. Well, we'll just have to see about that.
2006 will be one of the ugliest elections in this country's history.

Again, I write: but are those "emergencies" and the "emergency federal funds" to those states going to prevent more illegal aliens in reaching those/any states and/or return present illegal aliens already there to elsewhere, as in, deport them?
IF these funding measures do nothing to stop the flow of illegal aliens and also reduce the numbers currently here, all the federal dollars will accomplish is increased funding to service illegal aliens...and thus, more incentive for...more illegal aliens.
It's one thing to just award federal dollars from taxpayers and say, "emergency" (and most taxpayers are not going to resent helping with an emergency), but it's another thing to actually apply the funding to reduce and solve the problem as to why the conditions exist.
This reminds me of emergency funding to states where homes are lost repeatedly from the same areas due to ongoing, returning, repeating natural disasters. If the homes are rebuilt where there is obvious, identified risk, you can only ask everyone else so many times to be bailed out before you have to make changes to habitats.
And it's the same with illegal aliens. You either have to fund them, stop policing them (costs for social and behavioral problems and needs) or you have to reduce if not prevent their presence in the first place. Illegals cost everyone, not just locally, regionally, but affect all states, the whole nation, negatively, and there has to be some process by which their numbers are reduced, prevented and those already here sent back "home."
Not here by legal means, then illegal and if so, then back you go to wherever.
The incentives are why they're here in the first place, combined with lack of border security and no barriers to illegal entry. You/we have to fix the access problems.

Maybe this will help clear up the possible misunderstanding: MARK Warner is the democrat governor of VA while JOHN Warner is one of the two GOP US Senators from Virginia. (George Allen is the other.)
Virginia State Delegate David B. Albo is the "Fairfax County Republican" who is quoted in the Times as saying "If New Mexico and Arizona qualify, certainly Northern Virginia would."

Mr. Frederick, the only Hispanic member of the General Assembly, said such a move would help stem the drain on taxpayer resources caused by illegals who use public services, including hospitals. He still has relatives in Colombia.
By the way, in Fairfax County immigrant mothers increased from 6.5 percent of births in 1970 to 50.7 percent in 2002.
