eBay is now issuing this email to would-be bidders:

We were wondering how it is that this auction was cancelled, and yet other auctions such as the "Virgin Mary On Toast" were allowed to proceed.A piece of cheese on toast purportedly showing the Virgin Mary

The battle for the miracle melt has already caused a furore: when it was first offered last week, bidding was halted at $US22,000 when eBay declared the offer a prank.

The Duysers fought back and offered to prove that they really did have a likeness of the Virgin Mary made out of old melted cheese. Satisfied with the evidence, the website allowed the auction to continue.

Waleg.com

The toast eventually sold for $28,000.

I would be curious to see what proof eBay accepted that the toast was indeed an authentic likeness of the Virgin Mary. Did the Duyers provide authentication from the "Foremost Grading Authority"?

Or is eBay more comfortable allowing the Virgin Mary to be mocked than Mother Sheehan?

The toast looks more like Madonna of "Like a Virgin" fame.

"Making fun of the Virgin Mary is OK...Making fun of a left wing nut.....No. Shows you where Ebay is at..."

Maybe eBay is afraid Mother Sheehan will camp outside their offices, like she did to the Washington Post when they published something she didn't approve of.

So...what was the high bid? Last I saw it was only $28. Way short of the toast or the runaway bride kits.

It's definitely Marlene Dietrich. LOL

I'd love to dunk it in a bowl of "Lili Marlene" brand tomato soup.

This is very telling in a number of ways:

BuyBlue.org's Rating:

(What do the ratings mean?)

Rating: Light Blue - 57 %

BuyBlue.org's Position:

eBay currently has a 57% BuyBlue rating due to political contributions for the 2003-2004 election cycle. eBay presents an interesting situation for us to analyze. eBay's chairman and his spouse contributed almost exclusively and heavily Democratic in the past election cycle. eBay's CEO Margaret Whitman contributed heavily and nearly exclusively Republican. eBay also has a political action committee which contributed $121,254 (36.00% D, 64.00% R) during the last election cycle.

Therefore, eBay barely makes the cut and weighs in as a light blue company. Perhaps it is time for the progressive community to loudly call for Whitman's resignation and to demand that ebay get a handle on their PAC spending.

Please Note: As of 2/6/2005 the status of apolitical corporations has changed. Please click here for more details.

Maybe Whitman is trying to hold on to her job.

Aren't liberals great? So tolerant.

Ask them why you can buy thousands of movie and music bootlegs on there.

I found the same page also. I guess a few libs complained and they pulled it. I figure Mother Cindy and her shakedown cohorts would want a piece of the profits for selling it.

The Left are despots and feel their limited grasp on power slipping.

Was it making fun of the Virgin Mary? I thought it was supposed to be like the other "sightings" of her.
