Deja vu, all over again
http://jewishworldreview.com/ ^ | Bill O'Reilly

Posted on 08/22/2005 7:43:26 AM PDT by manny613

Thirty-five years ago this summer, the USA was exploding in protest over the Vietnam War. And today, the radical left wants to revisit those awful days by replicating the anti-war movement over the Iraq conflict. The question is, will they succeed?

Mrs. Sheehan strikes me as a decent woman who has no clue with whom she is currently swimming. Sensing a chance to humiliate President Bush, the Michael Moore crowd has rallied around Mrs. Sheehan, and she has become the anti-Iraq war poster person. But it's sad to watch this woman being used by organizations that not only oppose the Iraq war, but also believe the USA is a fundamentally flawed nation.

If the media has anything to do with it, yes.

They already have.

So far they can't muster more than a few hundred people in one place .... when I see 300K at one time in DC then they have.

Right now it's noise from the MSM during the dog days of summer.

President Bush has made two major mistakes in Iraq. The first is keeping Donald Rumsfeld as Secretary of Defense. Rumsfeld, understandably, is simply exhausted. He needs to be replaced by a battle-hardened commander who will bring a fresh perspective to the conflict.

Oh, here's another cockamamie thing he said. O'Reilly, just shut up.

I remember that we had to stop the godless commies from invading and taking over our country...now we have to stop the godless muslims from invading and taking over our country.....the commies never came, and I really don't believe the muslims will either.

I've been struck by how many posters on FR are coming out, in various shades, as being against us staying in Iraq. If there are doubts being voiced here then you can be sure it's the bleeding edge of something bigger.

I don't agree with them. I think Iraq has been a success and we must stay to finish the job and deliver a resounding slapdown to the insurgents who are taunting us and who would sell any withdrawal as a retreat under fire. So I don't agree with these posters, but that hardly matters. Perception is all, and things are geting less firm here by the day.

The communists prevailed in Vietnam because they had a stronger will to win than the U.S.-supported South Vietnamese. At great sacrifice, America gave the South a chance to be free. They did not step up.

O'Blowhard has his facts wrong.

The South Vietnamese didn't succeed because a Democrat Congress pulled the rug out from under them by cutting their promised funding for weapons and ammo, leaving them defenseless against a powerful invading North Vietnamese Army.

Because of political pressure from the same Leftist crowd, we also refused to supply them promised air power when the North Vietnamese invaded them for the last time. Nixon had already been hounded out of office by the Leftists and Ford just wanted it all the unpleasantness to go away.

We are the ones who quit!

The Muslims came, and they didn't need to play RED DAWN. I'm hoping the anniversary of 9/11 will remind folk of what we're doing and why.

Over six million Vietnam era Veteran's honor was stolen by MSM, Hollywood and educrats. This time we have their play book and the new media. Now is the time to reclaim the honor of our Vietnam era Veterans by defending this generation of troops.

...will they succeed?....What if they do? Are "they" going to take responsibility for the mayhem that results here? Will they hold candle light vigils for the victims of sucide bombings at resturants and malls here in America? What will "they" say when some of their families are victims of islam?

Not 'all Muslims', to be sure, but a lot of them sure don't seem to like us.

They already have. . .really!?!? Based upon what? The MSM giving round the clock coverage to Cindy Sheehan? Bogus polls conducted by the MSM that oversample democrats by 10%?

It still amazes me that no matter how many times the MSM is discredited or their movtives laid bare (as they have been in this story), they can still get a knee jerk reaction, especially here at Freerepublic a place that has done its share to debunk the MSM. It is obvious that the MSM is trying to fabricate, out of whole cloth, an anti-war movement. Afterall, to these people everything is Watergate or Vietnam. Still, some people around here continue looking to the MSM for some kernel of truth or unbiased reporting. "A growing anti-war movement, surely, this time the MSM has it right."

Well, they don't. So far, all I have seen is the same ole protestors with the same ole message. And yes, Cindy Sheehan is one of those same ole protestors. She was anti-war long before her son gave his life for this country. Her message is the same, she has just become the grieving victim the left loves (You can't dare disagree with a grieving victim, see for example, Girls, Jersey). But, the MSM tries to portray her as some sort of "new" thing, as if she supported the war until it hit home with the loss of her son. Bull shit!!

As for O'Reilly, he is just doing his typical thing. Trying to sound reasonable by walking down the middle. For example he typically says, "I believe we should be in Iraq, but be doing a better job or having greater success." Well duh Bill, who the hell doesn't agree with that.

I personally don't believe there are that many that pose a real threat, I think there are a large number that are vocal, but I really don't believe the threat is as big as we are told. This is just my opinion, with no way of backing it up.

You are right...."This time we have their play book"

The leftist marketing strategy is very devious. During Vietnam, one of their tactics was to encourage draftees to go AWOL. When a soldier refused to desert, he would be "welcomed" home to jeers and taunts and derision. The goal was to demean one soldier and get it publicized so it would demoralize others.

They've had to change tactics for the WOT. With no draft, the left is saying the all volunteer military was "lied to", "brainwashed", "dying for nothing".

The irony about this is how restrained so many of the soldiers are in responding to these slams. I suspect they rarely respond because they are too busy with the mission at hand.....also because they are told when they are sworn into service that respect for individual rights and for the Commander in Chief is required, it is the premise of freedom and the office of the president, not the individual that they must defend.

That's why so many here step forward to respond for them, "to watch their back".

The anti Iraq war movement will never reach vietnam levels, or even close, unless we reinstate the draft. When the draft ended so did much of the vietnam protest movement. That is why yutzes like charles rangel want a draft so as to stir things up just like nam.
