Posted on 08/22/2005 7:30:20 AM PDT by leadpenny

I've never seen Breaking News on C-SPAN before but they just flashed a comment on the bottom of the screen that an agreement has been reached on a constitution at 10:25 ET.

I was thinking, could there be a little denial at play?

Well of there is one thing liberals, democrats, and their lackeys in the press(AP, reuters, AFP) are good at, is to wait for the spin masters to give them their talking points when they are confronted with bad news to the liberal cause(in this case, the liberal cause, is to try to ensure defeat in Iraq).

Also of course ther will be people on FR who will be more than willing to run with the AP, reuters, AFP, story.

Great!

Time now to entrench the new government in the hearts and minds of the people!

That is the ultimate path to victory.

OMG this is HORRIBLE news.

SOOOOOOOOO will the MSM spend HOURS today talking about how everything is working out? They spent HOURS talking about how much of a disaster it was that they did not pass this the other day.

Hmmm

We shall see how this plays out. I feel sorry for all these people who are HOPING Iraq fails. Scum.

>>_Police in Baghdad said they had found the bodies of six unidentified men in various parts of the capital. All were handcuffed, bound and shot in the head.

Hope they're bad guys. If so, good. In a semi-chaotic situation like Iraq, this is not a bad solution.

The liberals are gonna start jumping off bridges soon. They have been saying for months now that Iraq would end up with a theocracy..

lol

All that's left to do is to have the elections in October... Declare victory, bring troops home, and have parades in every major city in America right before the 2006 elections... It's all coming together.

The MSM, as is their PASSION, will pick the agreement apart leaving the 30 second ADD viewer with the belief that the absolute worse draft outcome of the Iraqi constitution just took place.

Why is the "right to secede" bother you? The U.S. Constitution had no mention of states being able to secede ...

see this ...

In fact ... "when New York, Rhode Island, and Virginia ratified the Constitution, they specifically stated that they reserved the right to resume the governmental powers granted to the United States. Their claim to the right of secession was understood and agreed to by the other ratifiers, including George Washington, who presided over the Constitutional Convention and was also a delegate from Virginia ... As much as I would like the rights of women be contained in the constitution and that it not require Islam as state religion, I recognize that moving this ship of state in that direction will not happen overnight and I will not wring my hands in despair if that is not accomplished. It is much more important to keep radical Islamists from constitutionally taking charge of the government and again starting down the path to Jihad and WMD under state auspices.

I think I remember hearing that most Kurds are Sunnis. I guess my thoughts are that the Sunnis of Baghdad are Saddam loyalists.

I totally agree, lets see the agreement; we have heard "we have an agreement" from this project, too often followed up with except on a few points.

Breaking News!
National Assembly member Bahaa Al-Aaraji just told Al-Iraqia TV that an agreement has finally been reached among the leaders of political bodies on the final draft of the constitution and that disputes over issues like federalism, distribution of resources and the role of Islam have been solved.

"All we need now is a couple of hours to reprint the document and produce enough copies to submit them to all the members of the National Assembly to get theri approval later this evening…" Al-Aaraji explained.

Till now there has been no announcement from the head of the constitution drafting committee but Al-Iraqia reporter in the green zone is confirming the news.

Update (6:45 pm local time)The Sunni member of the constitution drafting committee Hasan Zaidan (1st image) said that he didn't get to see the new document till now and added:

"It seems that the Kurds and the Sheat want to pass this draft without considering our opinion...There are other unsolved points till now and I have no idea why no one notified us of the results of the latest negotiations".

Mean while, another CDC member Ali Al-Dabbagh (2nd image) confirmed the news of the agreements and he insisted that this outcome was reached with lots of dialogue among the concerned parties.

I don't know what the sticking points were for them, but you are right. The Sunnis in Baghdad are Saddam loyalists.

The report on Fox did say that the Kurds and Shia could approve the draft without them.
