King Sponsors Immigration Forum - "I suggest build a fence - it's cheap."

Des Moines, August 22nd, 2005- The debate over how to control illegal immigration takes center stage today at a forum here in Des Moines. Iowa Congressman Steve King is sponsoring this forum.

Not only are some of his ideas controversial, so are some of the guests-- including the leader of the Minuteman project. It's a volunteer group that began patrolling the U.S.- Mexico border in April looking for illegal immigrants trying to cross over. The group does not have any official sanctioning from U.S. immigration officials.

Congressman King has his own ideas on how to solve the border issue, "I suggest this. Build a fence- it's cheap, you can build it 10 foot high with barb wire on top for 680 million dollars. We spend six billion a year just incarcerating criminal aliens against those who come in and commit crimes against Americans. This would make the best return."

Many Latino organizations are promising to meet ideas like the Minuteman project.and a fence around the U.S., with fierce opposition. Today's forum will also focus on immigration's impact on homeland security as well as on the economy.

Make the fence electric and you've got yourself a deal.

How about a fence to go with that illegal alien invasion?

Is this congressman lying through his teeth to ignorant sheeples and hyping up the illegal alien border crisis just for votes, or is he telling the truth?

Somebody knows the deal...

Congressman King is either serious, or he's pulling a Hillary. I can't wait to see the reporting that comes out of this 'summit'.

King's fence idea sounds a helluva lot better than anything we're doing now.

What's yours?

Okay, first of all, God Bless Steve King!  We need more like him in Washington!

That being said, there's two problems with the fence idea.  One is that they'll just dig a hole under it, cut a hole in it, or throw a blanket over the top and climb over it.  Two is that it could serve as a deterrent to them going back home.

What needs to be done is a two pronged approach:

1.  ENFORCE LAWS AGAINST EMPLOYERS:  A $10k fine for each employed illegal and one year in prison for a second conviction will dry up all the jobs within a month.

2.  ENFORCE IMMIGRATION LAWS:  Whenever an illegal comes in contact with any entity that receives any sort of federal funding, be it police, schools, hospitals, fire departments, welfare offices, banks etc. they must report the illegal to ICE.  Upon apprehension, the illegal is immediately shipped off to a detention center for repatraiation (no release so they can "get their affairs in order" or pending a hearing).  Central/South Americans are all dumped off on the Mexican border, Africans and Chinese can be put aboard old freight ships and run aground at any location on the appropriate continent.  They can find their way home from there.

Once there are no jobs and the immenint possibility that Juan may not be coming home tonight, these people will by and large deport themselves.

I live in Iowa. King is for real. He wrote Iowa's "English Only" legislation and has been hammering on illegal immigration since he was in the State House.

Congressman King BUMP.

I suggest 20 feet high, electrified, topped with razorwire, with 10 feet of concrete underground. And of course, copious border guards waiting for anyone who pole-vaults over.

How about one of those prefab concrete walls they use next to highways to block out sound from neighborhoods.

and put a moat in front

with alligators

I believe you and Happy are on the same page, on a fence, as am I. However, I would rather see a 15 to 20 ft precast concrete wall, like the type we have on the sides of freeways. A chain link fence can be cut open in a matter of minutes with a bolt cutter.

Fencing is metal. If broken, it is easily detected with sensors.

Cheap and effective.

They could even put a big message on it in Spanish on the Mexican side and a nice relief on the US side.

No we're talking about a real Concrete reinforced fence (30 Ft High at least) built to ISRAELI Specs, a la, keep out terrorists, bombers, and anybody else, backed up with sensors, cameras, and the like.

Then a buffer zone with patrol lanes, and then the chain link with RAZOR WIRE.

We cut off entry to anybody who cannot FLY over the Border.

chainlink is simply not good enough.

prefab steel-plate and rebarred concrete is better.

bound it on either side with chainlink topped with concertina.

Walls beat fences hollow.

Another idea I think would help:
Abolish the federal income tax system, and replace it with the Fair Tax.
Neil Boortz has just written a book on this.
It would not only bring home jobs to America, it would help eliminate the need for hiring illegals under the table.
Our businesses are overtaxed...heck we're all overtaxed. The incentive for hiring illegals under the table would disappear, if there was no income tax, FICA, Medicare withholdings, etc.

Yup. Homeland Security Dept. favors concrete walls, over chain link fences, for protecting sensitive areas such as power plants, etc.

I do believe this issue is getting traction. There are enough politicians calling for a border wall with Mexico, to actually make it happen.

All it takes now, is for people to call their Congressman, to let them know they support the idea.
