How will an Islamic rule in Iraq benefit the US?It won't.
Next to outright losing the shooting war to the terrorists and their islamic supporters, this is the worst possible outcome.!

The great irony of the current situation in Iraq is that you have an Iranian Shiite theocracy materially supporting the Sunni (triangle) militants and terrorists who are killing Iraqi Shiites (as well as Coalition Forces). The reason for this is that most Iraqi Shia currently support the (Iranian born) Shia cleric Ayatollah Al Sistani. Sistani is opposed on theological grounds to the attempted hijacking of Shia Islam by the Iranians. Only the Muqtada Al Sadr Shia faction is favorably disposed to the Iranians.
Sooner or later, as the Iraqi Army is "stood up", and the US presence is "drawn down", there will come a day of reckoning, when the Iranians will be forced to show their hand. They may even attempt to assassinate Al Sistani, but if their fingerprints are on the attempt, they risk losing all support within the Iraqi Shia community. In any event, the Iranians will be forced to choose between the Iraqi Shia and the Sunni terrorists. At that point it will hardly matter whether Iraqi is nominally an "Islamic" country or not. Personally, I think there will be civil war, with a Shia and Kurdish alliance versus the Sunnis. Both Al Qaeda and the Iranians will be relatively minor players in that contest.

"...our policy there has created a situation that does exactly the opposite of what we wanted"
- What brings you to open a FR account today?
- Has there never been a FR thread that wasn't anti-Bush which made a "conservative" like you post a comment before?
- Why start today to post this as your own thread?
When you're set upon by a pack of rabid dogs, you don't try to figure out which one bit you last and you can't know which will bite you next. You start destroying every one of them in the order opportunity presents you.

What bothers me the most, however, is the fact that Iraq is on it's way to becoming a country ruled by islamofacists.Your premise is unsupported, and is (more than anything) simply a liberal trollish talking-point. That is unless you have something concrete (and empirical) to submit as evidence...

When it comes to Iraq, I have only one question...
"What would Douglas MacArthur do?"
Would he have negotiated with Al Sadr, or killed him?
Would he have permitted even a hint of Sharia "law" to infect Iraq?
When you look at WWII and its aftermath, you see how much softer we are today. From FDR's commonsense internment orders based on the ethnicity of our enemies, to our post-9/11 searches of elderly Chinese women in airports. From MacArthur's personal crafting of the Japanese laws, to the U.S. sitting back and allowing Iraq to do whatever it likes.

"The constitutional crises now going on is pitting the various factions against each other"
Having opposing views is what brings in a constitution.
What they had before was comparable to DNC/MSM collusion/facism.
