I don't follow you on the life expectancy numbers. People are currently moving on at the age of 75. Right? Are you saying that if one lives to be 65 they're likely to continue living to be 80, and that the average of 75 is somewhat distorted by younger deaths?>>>>>>>>>
Right, obviously if you have a group of people who are already 65 the odds of them living to be 80 is better than with a group who are 25 and could die before they ever reach 65.
Reset: I have been away doing real world things and just reviewed this thread.
Excuse me! I did'nt notice there were so many arm-chair generals and expert military strategists on board to "advise" Bush, Rummy and all those "inside the beltway" geniuses on how to conduct the war, plan the peace and otherwise wipe themselves.
I must respectfully exit at this point in deferrence to all the brainpower in this open-air asylum.
Please Freepmail me if you want on or off my infrequent Connecticut ping list.
A sea based fleet is our future. We can control any threatening situation from off-shore with navy guided missles and air superiority. Putting outnumbered boots on the ground with Humvees is 'old warfare'. WW II was it's high-water mark.
You're right...I shouldn't have. I got it now: you like to be irritating. But I'm not irritated--I just have a bit of pity for you.
Yep. The "greatest generation" gave us a splintered shaft good and hard. The damned entitlement scams are so upside down it's ridiculous. Hey, why are the baby boomers a problem, hasn't that same huge group been paying in for the last half century? Doesn't matter. Ponzi scheme. Pre-she-ate it commies, we'll take it from here.
"Overall, the selfishness of me first FDRers and foolishness have brought them into conflict with cold reality"
I find it difficult to call the people who suffered as children through the Great Depression and then sacrificed their young adulthood to defeat the Axis powers, only to then have to fight in Korea and endure a Cold War for almost the rest of their lives "selfish me first FDRers".
Every decision they made in the thick of economic and military battle was not perfect, but these people suffered, sacrificed, and then sacrificed some more. Indeed, they sacrificed their own comfort and well being to bring us up to age, most of us, either as our parents or grandparents.
That they looked towards a day when they were aged that they would finally be able to set down the load and let their children and grandchildren bear them, as they bore us, does not seem selfish. Indeed, it seems selfish to me to want to deny them that. We have more than they ever dreamt of, and the reason we have it is because of them.
Social Security and Medicare Drug Benefits are the least we can do. We just need to reorient the economy and our other expenditures and efforts to be able to take care of these people.
Otherwise it's us who are the whiny, selfish brats.
They EARNED it, by giving us a world to live in.
I don't much fancy speaking German.
I'd expect there are others who don't fancy ending up in the soapdish.
These "selfish" FDRers are the reason I don't and they're not.

It seems like every rat hole country has a sub or 4 with more coming on line.
I suspect America is still 40 years ahead of everyone eles and we know something they dont or else we are gonna get screwed.
In a report to Congress in March 2004, the Navy projected that it would need a fleet of 55 nuclear-powered attack submarines in 2024. A year later, the Navy lowered the projection to 45. By May, Admiral Vern Clark, who was then the chief of naval operations, said he wanted 41. Others now talk of a fleet in the 30's. It has been 16 years since the Berlin Wall fell,...
I hear ya. Kind of like a spider getting tangled in its own web. If it weren't so tragic, it would be funny.
Hmmmmm.....$1.6 divided by 20 = $800,000 a year....hmmmm...I bet congress procures more than that yearly to protect a Kangaroo rat.
Put the Seawolf on the endangered species list!
"Focusing on terrorism, is going to lead to many interesting developments."
That's putting it mildly. Keep your eye on the bouncing ball while we strip America of it's defense.
