"Overall, the selfishness of me first FDRers and foolishness have brought them into conflict with cold reality"

I find it difficult to call the people who suffered as children through the Great Depression and then sacrificed their young adulthood to defeat the Axis powers, only to then have to fight in Korea and endure a Cold War for almost the rest of their lives "selfish me first FDRers".
Every decision they made in the thick of economic and military battle was not perfect, but these people suffered, sacrificed, and then sacrificed some more. Indeed, they sacrificed their own comfort and well being to bring us up to age, most of us, either as our parents or grandparents.
That they looked towards a day when they were aged that they would finally be able to set down the load and let their children and grandchildren bear them, as they bore us, does not seem selfish. Indeed, it seems selfish to me to want to deny them that. We have more than they ever dreamt of, and the reason we have it is because of them.
Social Security and Medicare Drug Benefits are the least we can do. We just need to reorient the economy and our other expenditures and efforts to be able to take care of these people.
Otherwise it's us who are the whiny, selfish brats.
They EARNED it, by giving us a world to live in.
I don't much fancy speaking German.
I'd expect there are others who don't fancy ending up in the soapdish.
These "selfish" FDRers are the reason I don't and they're not.

Well worth repeating - thanks.
