Man shot in self defense in court
Posted 08/19/05
BAKERSFIELD - A man who was shot in the thigh Wednesday by a homeowner made his first court appearance Friday in a wheelchair.
Jonathan Heade pleaded not guilty to charges of cruelty to animals, assault with a deadly weapons other than a firearm, and possession of PCP.
Investigators said a Bakersfield couple found Heade standing in their yard, beating their dogs with a belt.
The wife confronted the man and told him to leave, but the man refused and then attacked her husband.
Thats when police said the woman fired two warning shots in the air before hitting the suspect in the thigh.
She will not face any charges.
CA wacko alert!
Misleading Title of the Week Award
I thought from the title that there was a shooting in a courtroom.
Sew did eye.
I see I'm not the only one who thought this shooting took place in the courtroom, based on the headline.
Warning shots are just an opportunity for your gun to jam. If you have the legal authority to cause injury or death to another, then use it. If it were me, there probably would have been four shots in his chest. Being afraid to hurt someone with your gun will just get you killed.
Actually Bakersfield, CA is one of the Top 10 most conservative cities in the country.
Exactly. When you produce a gun, you've just upped the ante with someone likely more familiar with guns and violence than you are. If you're gonna pull it, you better be prepared to use it.
...Thats when police said the woman fired two warning shots in the air before hitting the suspect in the thigh.
She is being arraigned on charges of attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, battery, and being a Republican. If convicted on all charges she faces 550 years in prison and a $500,000 fine.
The ACLU has announced that it will defend her assailant...
I'm happy to see that 3 of the top ten are here in Texas!
