Don't want to be a pedant, but can't writers wite anymore????



Your point about the "Maryland suburbs" demonstrates the weakness of many writers in the MSM today: ignorance of history, geography, philosphy...and even worse, unwillingness to look things up!

I guess Maryland suburbs are the great unwashed white conservative hinterlands outside Baltimore - the ultimate destination city. Yeahhh right....

I won't blame this entirely on the reporter. Goldie may have said this herself. The 'Maryland suburbs' is the common name used by those in the DC area for the suburbs outside of DC. It differentiates them from the VA suburbs. I think Goldie is from Takoma Park, MD.

I would use this term myself if talking w/folks who knew the DC area. It's not too helpful if people are from other parts of the country, tho.
