Just got off the phone with a friend in Tokyo who said he didn't feel this one, which is a good sign (for Tokyo) as they all really felt the Sendai quake the other day.

" FReepers in Japan, report in to HQ please! "
I am way down here in Kyushu and was happily unaware that there had been a moderate quake up there in Nigata ...7.0 nothing to sneeze at ...Glad there was no major damage , or that any loss of life occurred ...The biggie is due ! Yikes .

Aren't the 7.0s the bursts that relieve the stress of something bigger?
Give me direction: up and down or lateral. And then give duration and displacement; magnitude is just that - 'magniture' and but one descriptor of a 'quake' ...

Thanks for the Ping. However, I needed to restate here (as I do often, especially for FR newcomers):

I know you don't, but you're on the *ping* list and I thought you'd be interested in the news of the jishin and finding out what's up over there.

I understand. I understand.
It just just one of my general advisories here on FR from tmie to time as I get a lot of private freepmails of concern after each and every Japanese earthquake--as people think I am there...but I've been told not to change the FR moniker by everyone!!
