Has Michael Savage ever talked about Cindy Sheehan? I am aware of what O'Reilly and Limbaugh think of her...

Savage's ratings are in toilet. Al Franken has more listeners.Source?

Savages ratings are in toilet. Al Franken has more listeners. I believe that was in NYC only, and those numbers are hotly disputed.

Would prefer Laura Ingraham, but the poor girl must be in cancer treatment as she has some guest host. Laura's on vacation. She's finished with the chemo and will soon start radiation. She's supposed to be back on Monday. And yes, I would take her (faults and all) any day over Savage.

Savage is the #3 radio show in the nation my friend. Right behind SH & Rush.

I would not take all the talk shows put together over Rush. Agreed. My radio listening, before I found talk radio, was all "local" based (in SoCal)and sports oriented; Jim Rome, and a few other guys you've probably never heard of.
Now it's Bill Bennett, wake-up till 6; Laura Ingraham/Rick Roberts till 9; Rush till noon; Hannity for the first half hour (MP3s of past Rush shows and my own music until 3); Larry Elder/Hugh Hewitt until 6; Al Rantel/Frank Pastore until the Dodgers/Angels/Lakers/hockey Kings come on.
If I could get Tony Snow locally, I would listen to him over both Laura and Rick.

That's a pipe dream. Too many lawyers fund both parties.

"Agreed. My radio listening, before I found talk radio,"
I knew nothing about talk radio prior to Clinton's first run to become president.
I lived in a rural area, and it was often hard to get AM radio. I understood that AM was then devoted to sports, which I have zero interest in.
One day, I hit a button by mistake and wound up hearing RUSH.
I thought I had been beamed to heaven.

Would prefer Laura Ingraham, but the poor girl must be in cancer treatment as she has some guest host. Laura's chemo ended about two weeks ago and she sounds very well. Laura pretty much kept her schedule during the chemo, taking Fridays off for the chemo. I think she and the rest of her posse were on vacation last week and it wasn't treatment related, but I don't know for sure.
Laura's back on Monday. Wishing her the best, as always!

I'd gladly entertain any more recent stats if anyone can find them. Those were all I could find and, even though they are old they were printed in an article in June.
And I listen for the amusement also. You're certainly not going to learn anything listening to Savage.

I found Rush while on a cross country trip in August of 1992. I really thought that the world had been turned upside down and that I was the only one who had a conservative opinion. This was during X42s emergence and my only cable was CNN. I was beginning to think I was a freak until I heard the voice from the AM dial. I was also in heaven to learn that millions of othjer ditto heads existed & finally our thoughts were on the air.
I love to hear the liberals say that Rush created us....we created him.

Thanks for the info, I don't listen to much evening talk radio during baseball season (we get Laura rebroadcast at 7pm up here).
To: benjaminjjones
I work at home and usually have a live internet stream of Laura-Prager-Medved-Savage going on from 6am-6pm PST.
Depending on my schedule, I miss portions of Laura-Prager-Medved. I NEVER miss Savage! :-)
They are all great, though!

I can't believe you don't have Rush in the mix. It took a while to get used to his ego, but Rush got me into the whole conservative talk radio addiction.
I'm self employed as well. I like to joke I became self-employed so I could listen to talk radio, LOL.
For me it's more like noon-1am
Rush, Howie Carr, Laura Ingraham, and Hannity.
Savage, who's on up here at the same time as Laura, is an option if Laura gets dry or too far into the legal stuff (her background).
I gave Savage a full three months of daily listening, but it was upsetting when he would start screaming. Without a doubt he's a brilliant guy, more accomplished that I could ever hope to be, but I just decided I didn't wan't to listen to someone scream on the radio.
Laura laughs a lot. I need that.
I'm guessing Prager is Dennis Prager, your local guy. I found his web site, but he sounds kinda preachy, and having been raised Catholic, I'm not sure I'd like that.
Our local guy, Howie Carr, is more of a salt-of-the-earth guy, a failed Catholic like me.
Howie's great for local politics, but is full of humor, irreverent, attacks against NE liberals, illegal aliens, homosexuals, etc.
I use him to get my daily dose of laughter and local politics.
He finally got Internet streaming going after a 4 year struggle. There's a "Listen Live" rebroadcast at 1am I think. Give him a listen if you find some free time (oh, he's off on vaca all next week).

I started listening to Rush way back in the 1980s when he first arrived to the NYC market. I like him a lot: he is the dean of conservative talk radio. I listen to him on occasion if I am in my car while he is on. He is great in small doses of 30 mins a clip, and he is even better when I haven't listened to him in a long time.
I like Laura in the AM, she and her posse are my early morning gang and I find her laugh and sense of humor very infectious. She is one smart lady, also, and her insights are excellent. I usually catch her on Sirius.
Then Dennis Prager at 9am via Internet audio (he is nationally syndicated - I am no longer in nyc but in Las Vegas so I get these guys on their west coast times). Rush is opposite him, but I tend to go with Prager. If he darts off on a subject that leaves me cold (maybe 2 or 3 of his 15 weekly hours) I usually switch over to G Gordon Liddy on Sirius. If he is away, I check out Tammy Bruce also on Sirius. Truth is, I like all of these guys a lot and it's hard to choose.
Then it's Mike Medved noon to 3, also via the Internet. If he leaves me cold (maybe 3 or 4 of his 15 weekly hours, I change pace and check Dr. Laura on local radio in LV. Otherwise, I catch Jerry Dolye on Sirius.
3pm-6pm belongs to Savage. I usually get him via Internet from his home station in SF so I get all 3 hours live (3-6) as he is on broadcast radio in Las Vegas 4-7pm.
I never turn off on Savage, his show is the one I most look forward to daily and am genuinely bummed if he is on vacation and has a 'best of' show or a sub.
Only once a week I deviate from Savage for an hour: Hugh Hewitt has Mark Steyn call in for the first hour of his radio show 3-4pm PST (I am a HUGE Steynaholic, and Steyn calling in Hewitt is kind-of like The Green Lantern hanging out with Green Arrow: ultra cool, super iconic), and I bump Savage to 4pm-7pm.
I very much enjoy Savage's on-air personality. He doesn't scream all that much, and I find his wit and observations very thought provoking. His greatest strength, I think, is when he wanders off on a seemingly unrelated topic, story, history lesson, or personal anecdote, explores it for a few minutes, and then dovetails the moral or lesson from the story into a topic that's in the news that day or week.
I am a tough critic, but some of his observations that he explores that way leave me amazed and slack-jawed. He probably has the 2nd best natural mind on conservative talk radio, and he is only 2nd because he lacks discipline. That isn't so bad, because I lack discipline too. Savage rocks, plain and simple: I like his unabashed point of view and how he also criticises Dubya or the GOP when necessary.
For better or worse, Savage says what's on my mind and anybody who does that consistently is AOK in my book.
By the way, I consider Mike Medved to be the best natural mind in conservative talk radio and probably our side's best commentator. He has an uncanny ability to listen to a caller and then zero in on one question to him/her, and that question much more often than not reveals the flaw in the person's point of view. An excellent commentator and a fine gentleman!
Dennis Prager is awesome - he is the best for analysis of macro issues on culture, politics, life, etc. He is one heck of a guy, very smart, very realistic and practical, and not preachy at all. One of his slogans, which I have adopted, is that he seeks clarity over agreement - his interviews tend to not be argumentative so much as illuminating: he isolates the differences in thinking between the sides very well.
I am born, raised, and practicing Catholic myself, and I enjoy Dennis's show and agree with him probably 90%+ of the time. He is the one radio host I most want to sit next to in 1st Class 4+ hour flight, IF he was chatty (I know I would be)!!
I was switching radio channels the other eve and found Prager on 1280 in Las Vegas from 9pm-12am or so, which I am pretty sure was a Spanish music and news station for a while. Arriba!
For local politics, I used to listen to Bob Grant in nyc ever since I was about 12 years old (actually a combo of national and nyc politics)! On rare occasion I find his show on the internet for a dose of Mr. Grant: The Icon That Keeps Going!
Other than that, I have no local favorite radio personality in Las Vegas for local stuff, though I have been known to listen to conservative co-hosts here in LV Alan Stock & Heidi Harris while I'm making my morning coffee.
I'll check out Howie Carr, thanks! Give Prager a shot, you may like him!

Hardcore Talk Radio!
Love it! The new audio MSM!
Waydda go guy. Spread the word, if you can without it affecting your bidness.
I'm in a bit of a bidness slump right now (because of my political leanings), and don't have access to satellite radio.
Kuddos, take a Hollywood shower. LOL You sound like a Republican star. Keep it up.
To: HitmanNY
Hitman, that was a very thorough description of Dr. Savage and his show--if I'm not laughing at his stories and experiences I am in awe of the breadth of his subject matter and ability to comment on same intelligently.
He does rant and sometimes the ugliness of it makes me uncomfortable. I notice, though, that when he interviews a guest he is perfectly calm, normal and professional. That makes me believe that some of the ranting is just show biz juice to gin up the listeners.
I enjoy Rush but besides golf, football and cigars (none of which I want to hear more than a minute or two of,) he gets pretty repetitive.
Michael Medved IS great--jumps right in to it and is a very sharp mind. I only switch to Hannity, who is on at the same time, if the Medved subject doesn't particularly interest me.
We've only recently had Prager in our area. He is on opposite Rush. I've only listened to him a little--his slower pace has not yet captured my attention for more than a few minutes here and there. I do think I should give him a better hearing.
To: zarf
Savage is number three in the country behind Rush, Hannity, and believe it or not, ahead of Stern. I don't make this stuff up, it is widely reported and backed up by Arbitron ratings. What is more important, for the GOP and DEM koolaide drinkers, is that his ratings are steadily improving while other TSHs are either flat or in decline.
To: benjaminjjones
Me, a Republican star? I just listen to the radio, read a lot, strive for clarity of thought (even if that leads me to criticizing people on my side), and try to post sober thoughts on FR, that's all!
Thanks! ;-)

The Schiavo situation wore down many conservative commentators as it unfolded.
Laura Ingrahm was unhinged: clearly not her normal self and very angry at how it was playing out. I swear she didn't laugh for 2 straight weeks. I was actually concerned about her.
Tammy Bruce was passionate and had a lot invested in it, too.
Dennis Prager had a cool 'summit' of conservative commentators on for an hour of his program on it: Prager, Medved, Hewitt (the 9am-6pm KRLA talk lineup) discussed it and took calls together. I never encountered that. All were trying very hard to be clear minded on it but it was getting to them.
Savage was the only guy to unapologetically call out 'Frankenstein' Mike Schiavo. Again, for better or worse, Savage articulated and made public much of my own internal dialog on the matter. He also was very passionate about it.
That was a heck of an ordeal and I will never forget those 10-14 days around the time she passed away. It sucked my energy, too.
Prayers for Terri! I will never forget her!

I do laugh out loud (from enjoyment) more from Dr. Savage's commentary than almost any other source of entertainment out there. He is wickedly intelligent and anyone who underestimates his brains does so at their own peril.
I think you hit on the truth there: more than a bit of Savage's radio persona is an exaggeration. If you listen closely, you will hear him cracking himself up at the tail end of his rants, as if he is enjoying performing them as much as his fans like to listen to them.
Savage is sincere and not a shill (well, he shills for himself but that's ok). Like I said, I think from time to time he hams it up to get a rise out of the audience.
I have no proof of this, just my gut talking, but I think sometimes his fans call up and imitate nauseating libs just to get him started. Some of his lib callers are so nauseatingly lib that they clearly called to bait him on. With names like 'Herbie,' I think it's great that his fans get in on the act.
PS - Do you guys know that African American combative liberal guy with a very distinctive speech pattern who somehow manages to call up every show about 1x a week? I have heard him on almost every radio show with alarming frequency: he must stay home all day calling around the dial. It might be 'Danny from Tampa,' but I'm unsure.
