Fred Barnes waves white flag on border issue (Special Report "All Ster Panel)
Fox News Channel ^ | August 19, 2005 | DTogo

In the final segment of the Brit Hume's "All Star" panel (Brian Wilson was filling in for Brit), the topic was the recent state of emergency declarations by NM and AZ governors. Asked if the Governator might be next, Charles Krauthammer suggested a wall is necessary to stem if not halt the flow of illegal aliens so that they can enter the U.S. legally in designated points (yes!). At his turn, Fred Barnes predicated his comments with the usual "Look..." and then said "we have to accept a certain number of illegal aliens" and that a wall would be too long and expensive. He also implied that we'd need about ten times the border agents we have today and that isn't practical either.

Are you watching the O'Reilly show, with Tony Snow subbing?

Because if you are, I have a lengthy question for you about the guy from the Brookings Institute that was on.

And lets use the $$ we normally send to the Palies. What a great employment program too. Just need to make it high and deep though.

What is the mindset that prevents pundits of the Washington elite from seeing the solutions to the problem?

Because they live in Washington and not the real world.

yea, well Cleland has allowed people to believe for decades that he was WIA(wounded in action) and HE WAS NOT! He's in a wheelchair today and for the rest of his life because of his own stupidity!
Point, Game, Set, Match!

I have met REAL HEROES from Nam, Korea, WWII and Iraq and Max Cleland couldn't hold a candle to these men!

So the clowns in the MSM need to get off this crap of calling Max Cleland a "hero." It denigrates those who really are HEROES!

Semper Fi,
Kelly

The outstanding wall near San Diego only cost 1.7 million a mile. Multiply that by the 1945 mile border, and you get around 3.3 billion dollars- a few months worth of the Iraq operation.

Illegals and the public services, health care, education, welfare etc. they mooch comes to NINE BILLION DOLLARS EVERY YEAR OF THE CALIFORNIA STATE BUDGET, according to conservative estimates. I know that doesn't include the cost to private individuals and businesses that crimes---often violent---committed by illegal aliens cause. And that's just California.

Is there anyone left in the government who can do a cost-benefit analysis? If we spend 3.3 billion to build a wall, we have a good chance of saving some of that nine billion dollars squandered on illegals just in the California state budget---if only by cutting down on the illegals that now move freely back and forth on the border. If we don't do anything---just like we're not doing anything now---to stop the invasion, I guarantee you that that nine billion dollars is going to look like chicken feed in just a few years' time.

Sorry, I got side-tracked. Care to summarize, or do I need to see the re-broadcast later?

Fred Barnes predicated his comments with the usual "Look..." and then said "we have to accept a certain number of illegal aliens" and that a wall would be too long and expensive.

We don't have to accept any illegal aliens, especially now.
Too long & expensive? Concrete technology is quite effective and economic these days.

In fact, the construction and maintenance of such a wall would be a profitable project.

Weigh the wall costs against the costs of medical, social and education services stolen by illegals.

At first I thought you meant an "all steer panel".

With what came out of Fred's mouth, it might have been a "one steer" panel. Pure B.S.

"Can you sit in a chair without a spine? Fred does this every time I see him, amazing."

The KrautHammer sits in a wheelchair and has more backbone than Fred Barnes.

What is the mindset that prevents pundits of the Washington elite from seeing the solutions to the problem?

Money---the love of money. Greed for campaign contributions from lobbyists for businesses that employ illegals.

Scofflaw employer lobbyists have a choice about where to spend their contribution money. You don't have a choice about paying the taxes that go to support the benefits for illegals that the clients of those lobbyists don't have to pay, all to fatten up the "bottom line" of their scofflaw business clients.

That makes all the difference. That's why when Open Borders Lobbyists say "Jump!", the Washington elite says, "How high?" When American citizens complain about the illegal invasion, they're told we "can't afford" to do anything about it---meaning "Shut up and pay your taxes, serf, while we go to the bank to deposit these campaign contribution checks from the Chamber of Commerce."

That's a dang nice wall.

Bechtel, Zachry, S&B, Kellogg or Brown & Root would be glad to build one like it.

I'll help.
