Fred Barnes predicated his comments with the usual "Look..." and then said "we have to accept a certain number of illegal aliens" and that a wall would be too long and expensive.

We don't have to accept any illegal aliens, especially now.
Too long & expensive? Concrete technology is quite effective and economic these days.

In fact, the construction and maintenance of such a wall would be a profitable project.

Weigh the wall costs against the costs of medical, social and education services stolen by illegals.

Another benchmark for the cost is that freeway sound walls cost $1 million per mile (on both sides of the road). Yet here in CA, they are putting those up like they were going out of style. We could put up a dual fence for about $2B ($1 million x 1900 miles) across the whole US-Mexico border. Even at double or triple the price for rough terrain, that's only a few weeks of the cost of the war in Iraq, and that's money well spent. The pundits like Barnes must think we can't do simple math.
