KRUGMAN TRIES TO PULL A FAST ONE [John Podhoretz] Paul krugman tells a whopper today in his column about media recounts in the 2000 election: "Two different news media consortiums reviewed Florida's ballots; both found that a full manual recount would have given the election to Mr. Gore." Um--no. Wrong. Bzzzzz. One of those groups was led by USA Today, and here's what they found in a May 15, 2001 USA Today story headlined "Newspapers recount show Bush prevailed": "George W. Bush would have won a hand count of Florida's disputed ballots if the standard advocated by Al Gore had been used, the first full study of the ballots reveals. Bush would have won by 1,665 votes more than triple his official 537-vote margin if every dimple, hanging chad and mark on the ballots had been counted as votes."
This will be the subject of about a billion blog entries today. Did Krugman really think he could get away with this?

I don't think Krugman is a moron, though. I think he's a highly intelligent evil person with no morals whatsoever.
We aren't going to rerun the last three elections.
Both paragraphs are lies. But that is a good thing. The fact they continue to rerun their failures is stunning. They cling to the illusion that Clinton won his presidency. He actualy gained it by default.
Sure, Krugman is a sleazy guy, and apparently a pathological liar as well, but what does his continued employment say about the New York Times? Has that paper gone so far down the toilet that the editors and publisher have simply lost all sense of shame?
See the article I link to in post 19, 5th paragraph. They confirm Bush's victory, but note that there was one method, "advocated by many Republicans," by which Gore came out three votes ahead.
They just can't get over it.
Seems like I remember reading that the only way Gore could have won was counting all the overvotes as well as the undervotes and *also* assigning him votes where the voter voted strictly Democrat but then voted for Buchanon ( going back to the poorly aligned voter form issue ) which obviously never would have held up in court. There was no way Gore could have won the election.
Not actually true. More Media make believe. What the Bush Campaign was advocating was NO re-re-re-recount. By Florida Law after 2 recounts the vote stands. The standard CNN refers to was the one argued for AFTER the Gore campaign contributers on the Florida Supreme Court orders a re-re-re-recount. So it was a Republican standard argued for only AFTER their original argument was rejected by a court with direct conflict of interests. So CNN is deliberately misreporting this.

The Miami Herald has managed to do what no other review of Florida ballots has done: Declare both George W. Bush and Al Gore the winner.
Under one complicated scenario in which ballots in only 68 counties are tabulated, Bush wins, the newspaper said in Wednesday's editions.
Under a second, equally complicated scenario, in which ballots from all 67 Florida counties are counted, Gore wins.
* * *
According to the Herald Gore wins. Gore wanted to only recount some counties instead of a complete recount, done the way Gore wanted he would have lost, but done properly he would have won. At least according to the Herald.
He's a leftist, a "professor", and he works for the NYT. Of course he thinks he can lie and get away with it.
Its not just Krugman. Countless lefties have referenced this stuff for years. They care nothing if it is false.
Can't wait to see his retraction.
It really doesn't matter. Just one method out of dozens suggested comes up with a three vote lead for Gore -- and that's so close that random error could account for it. It strikes me that if the press were lying, they would come up with something with a more significant lead for Gore.
It's amusing trivia. Certainly not something to get worked up over.
If there was ever one man who best fit the definition of a pusilanimous pipsqueak.........it's Kruggy.
"Only 68 counties" and "all 67 Florida counties." I'm guessing a typo here... For the record, Florida has 67 counties.
Ah the little nowhere man from the yellow submarine is at it again!
Liberals are like Muslims - it's alright to lie if you aren't lying to one of the other faithful.
