PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) State Sen. Jason Atkinston told listeners of the Lars Larson Show on Thursday that he is running for governor.
The Jackonville Republican said he was fulfilling a promise to let the conservative talkshow host and his listeners be the first to know of his plans.
Atkinson isn't well known statewide, but has said he believes that a fresh face is exactly what Republicans need to finally recapture the governor's office after five straight losses to the Democrats.

Considering the completely non-commital answer that he gave Lars about his stand on illegal immigration, I'm not exactly ready to declare him a "true" conservative. Unless the definition of being a true conservative these days means that you have to shill for a cheap labor pool. Of course, given the alternatives fielded by the GOP here in OR, he may be the best that we can get.
Did you happen to catch O'Rielly last night?
He had two guests on, one was a state Republican from OR.
Representative (state level) and they were talking about Jessica's Law and how the head of the Senate (a Dem) is holding it up from being voted on until 2007. O'Rielly got really incensed when the Republican sort of coverd for her and BOR stated that the governor needed to call a special session to vote on the bill now, or he BOR, was going to mount a campagian to oust the current gov.
Good old Senator Kate Brown. She's the Senate majority leader who refused to allow the bill to come up. May have been paying back the House speaker for refusing to take up civil unions.
"Katie" is from Portland so her seat is safe in her ultra-liberal district. She seems to be having a hard time deciding which team she is on though. I think she claims bi-sexuality, as though we really needed to know. Welcome to Portland politics.
There goes O'Bloviator again, huh? It would be pretty amusing to see him go after Kulongoski, though. Anyway, I don't even know why we have a statewide Republican party in Oregon, they might as well rename it "Democrats Lite" or "We're not quite as socialist as the Democrats".
Anything but CINO Kulongoski.
That was outstanding on O'Reilly last night. He really called Oregon on the dime!
Bill also said that Kate Brown should get the boot. (Only heard snippets of it, but I think this was part of his message.)

I heard Atkinson on Lars' show yesterday, he seems to have his head screwed on right.
from the title i thought it might be rowan atkinson.
I'm not even sure I would vote for this guy to stay in the state senate after that domestic partner crap he was pushing instead of just saying hell no...
I listen to that morning show on 880 AM where the host is a woman who claims to be a conservative, but thinks homosexuals should be allowed to marry. Atkinson is a frequent guest.
I don't trust him or that - former - PBS - pretend - I - am - a - conservative host. She is from the S.F. Bay area and was involved in pubic, er, public broadcasting. I trust very few from the S.F. Bay, most of that area is a Bermuda Triangle of total nutcases.
Moving here to Southern Oregon, I have watched this governor and he is a moron, for sure. Worst thing is, I don't see a whole lot of difference between him and this Atkinson fellow on the pervert unions...
Ive got a plan so cunning for this state, you could put a tail on it and call it a weasel.
I favor making such crimes a capital offense. Where would Mr. O'Reilly stand on that one?
I like Bill, don't get me wrong, but all this talk about laws and dorks in the legislature; hey, shoot the scums with a twenty-five cent bullet.
Read his response on his website, Lars blew it way out of context. Funny thing is Lars calls himself a conservative then backs the biggest RINO now Saxton.
That wont happen, she represents Portland. Anything that makes sense doesnt for Portland people.
Well Atkinson gets a 0% from pro "choice" groups and a 0% from basic rights group (homo agenda). So you decide if you believe him. Atkinson is the real deal.
