Glad to hear this wasn't Keith's idea.
....even though I suspected as much.

Time to give it up, Mick.

I thought potentially it would detract attention from the rest of the album and be seen as cheap publicity. Congratulations, Mick. You got both.
Now please...just shut up and go away.

Personally I'm ignoring this self-absorbed, adolescent crap. Jagger stopped thinking independently years ago. This is simply embarrassing.
Just dumb. When bands turn political, it's over for them.
Sad to see a great band overstay it's welcome (which they have long-since done).

Drudge cracked me up when he referred to them as "The Strolling Bones." Now that's funny.

" "I have my opinions, which I've stated in the tune. Maureen Dowd is no more qualified to have opinions than I am."Right, Mick, and I care about as much about hers as I care about yours. You're both idiots.

I always figured Keith and Mick disagreed on this.....they do on everything.

"I thought potentially it would detract attention from the rest of the album and be seen as cheap publicity. We don't need that ... " The Stones were always a "cheap publicity" type Rock n Roll band, so who is Keef trying to fool here? As far as I'm concerned, the Stones ceased to be a creative force in music around early 70's .... everything since then has just been sell out hacking
But they still are a terrific live band, in concert ... I won't take that away from them

but what's wrong with a poke in the eye?" Because when you poke someone in the eye they may not buy your music, you freak. Just what everyone wanted from a old clueless brain dead musician, a political speech.

After several hours of convulsive sobs, I've composed myself enough to haul all my Stones CDs out for a bonfire. My neighbor shook his fist at me as black smoke wafted through his backyard. He doesn't realize the Stones are guilty of Thoughtcrime and must be sent down the Memoryhole. (They're also old, which everyone sees fit to mention but never bothers to explain how it's relevant.
Hmmmm...I suppose...
old--unlike all those great bands from the 80s & 90s that I can't think of...)
Clearly, Purity of Thought is a prerequisite for all entertainers. The faintest hint of subversion demands the cleansing of fire! Maybe we can organize a re-education camp for Jagger and all those depraved enough to listen to him. Imagine someone criticising the omnibenevolent seraphs who guide our foreign policy! (Wasn't he supposed to submit this song to the Ministry of Truth before its release?)
I'm spending the rest of the week playing my LPs backwards to check for anti-neocon messages. I'll keep everybody posted.

I just saw an interview with Eric Clapton on CNN. He was asked about politics and he said "I don't trust politicians" and then followed it up by saying that they have a some ulterior motive for everything they do.

This is nothing more than the Stones copying what the band Green Day did.
Green Day was a washed up pseudo punk band who's best days had long since past. They then come out with an overtly anti-american album and are instantly the darlings of the music establishment. Suddenly MTV plays their videos and wants them for interviews. Rolling Stone magazine puts them on the cover. You get the picture
Mick Jagger has now created some controversy and people are talking about the album. Once released it is sure to get a lot more air time on the radio then it probably deserves. Little marxist students who would have otherwise not known a Stones album has been released, let alone actually purchase it, will go out and buy it for know other reason than it's anti George Bush lyrics. This is nothing but a marketing strategy.
