Idiot for running for that party. He should run in the GOP primary.

Jim's got the right idea about the border, but he is not politically savvy at all. A few times I was right next to him when he was being interviewed during the Minuteman Project. His political views are all over the map - and some of them are quite bizarre. He's never going to win anything running independent. If he was smart he would have registered Republican, starting talking Republican, and then ran as a Republican. Instead he's going to alienate his best allies in this fight by running against a Republican in the general election. He's not making a politically smart decision here, it's going to cost him and a lot of other people a whole bunch of money and time that will amount to nothing. He had a good thing going with the Minuteman Project but he should have stuck with that. Now he's going to make enemies of people who would have otherwise been his allies. Remember all those Republican legislators who came down to support the Minuteman Project? Do you think you're going to see them again when the co-founder of the project is running against a Republican and bad mouthing the Republican Party? How much damage did he just do to his friends in the Republican Party who went out on a limb to publically support his effort with the Minuteman Project? In my opinion, Gilchrist just jumped the shark and his star is going to fade very rapidly.

Problem is he's planning to run on the Constitution Party ticket. That alone will make it very difficult.

The views I heard him express as I stood right next to him during a couple of his interviews during the Minuteman Project are not in line with the Constitution Party. I'm surprised by this news that he's running on their ticket.

He's got my endorsement.

Stick it to the establishment GOP guy.

The drain on votes of Republicans will help Democrats speed up the destruction of this once great land.

Listened to his announcement speech on John and Ken's show today.

Very stirring presentation, I thought.

And definitely in line with the thinking of the conservative mainstream.

Some of the OC blogs have a link to the MP3. I'll try and post them here later.

Jim has been an AIP member for something like eight years.

He couldn't have run GOP if he wanted to. You have to do it three months before running.

Doesn't matter as much as usual anyhow.

To the extent that it is a 'primary', it is an open primary. Any voter can vote for any candidate in any party.

But it isn't truly a primary anyway, since if any candidate gets 50% plus one vote, it is over.

If, as is likely, no one does that, the winners of the various party's 'primary' advances to the December 6th run-off election.

This thing is already turning into a head to head between Jim Gilchrist and Campbell.

Most likely scenario:

Match, then rematch.

It is going to be very interesting.
