Transcript of Christopher Hitchens on subject of Cindy Sheehan from Wed. night's Hardball
MSNBC's "Hardball" ^
Posted on 08/18/2005 10:18:15 AM PDT by Charlesj
ODONNELL: Im sure also the president did not anticipate that while he was spending a five-week vacation at his ranch in Crawford, Texas, that he would be witnessing a mom, Cindy Sheehan, who has been camped outside his ranch now, demanding a meeting with the president, saying she wont leave until that happens.
Christopher, do you think that this representsor she represents some sort of tipping point in public opinion in America?
HITCHENS: Certainly not. She has, just today, lied about a statement that she made several times before to the effect that her son was killed in a war run by a secret Jewish cabal within the administration. She now says she didnt make that statement. She did make that statement. So as well as being an hysterical paranoid ideologist, or at least being manipulated by people who are, turned this into camp fruitbag and nutbag, she has decided not to have the courage or maybe the cowardice of her conviction. She now says she didnt make a statement that she definitely did.

I really like Hitchins.
Back to the days when he was the regular socialist guest on Crossfire (1985-1986), he has always been entertaining and razor-sharp with his vocabulary.
I disagree with him on a lot of things, but on the WOT he has been the finest and most eloquent spokesman in the media. By far.
Oh, and he just ripped little Miss Seditious Moonbat Puppet a new one.

They have asked Anderson Cooper of CNN retract his statements and apologize.
Has ABC actually asked CNN to make a correction? I couldn't find anything suggesting that on the link.

I'm listening to Rush at the moment. He says someone called in to tell him that he stayed overnight in a Crawford motel and Cindy Sheehan was staying in the room below him. So much for the vigil. She said some days ago that she moved to the Peace House because there were fire ants in her tent, but if anyone remembers those hippy cribs from the 60s there are very few people who can stay in places like that.

I read on one of the numerous threads on Sheehan that she was caught at a hotel and explained that she had a tv interview with ABC's "Good Morning America" so she needed a good nights sleep in order to look good for the show.

Hitchens needn't get so emotional. He's the only one on the tube expressing common sense on the subject of Cindy Sheehan. They only understand strong emotion. They certainly can't quite get the hang of reasoned discourse.

"...the anti-war schtick has rarely brought any party to power."
Isn't that the truth. While I understand the need these people have to remain relevant, even their large protestations during the Vietnam era couldn't deliver them a political victory. In fact, they got creamed. And ironically the only victory they can claim was one that got more people killed and created more havoc for the people they supposedly wanted to protect. Not a very good record of success.

I didn't know Crawford had a motel. Seriously, my mother calls the President "my neighbor", so I've blown by it a few times. There's a gas station and not much else.

I didn't know Crawford had a motel. It probably doesn't, but my guess is that there is some decent facility not too far down the road.

There weren't fire ants in that region in the '60's. They've been moving out from Mobile, Alabama at the rate of 30 miles per year for decades now. They used to have the National Guard spray Mirex on them from airplanes in Texas, lol.

No. Actually. She seemed to think it was kind of amuzing. A friend of mine at NBC said O'Donnell is not liberal and voted for Bush, and she is also a strong drinker. Would be fun to have dinner with her.

Really? She's a hottie too.
