This is an "old school" democrat. A Harry Truman, Zell Miller type. Too bad there are so few of them.

Yeah, Lamm was one of the good Dems, classic lunchbox Democrat. He'd make most of the Pubbies today look like socialists.

I've told several friends of mine that a second civil war is coming, although this one will not be between the North and South but the East against the West.

As illegals are given more political power, they will seize more and more of America.

Thanks federal government...for nothing.

Wow..just wow. I remember being upset with him when he said senior citizens had an obligation to die, but I'd say he's redeemed himself.

"Diversity is our strength" is the most wrong and dangerous dogma imposed on us.

"Diversity is the gratest ennemy of this country!" - and this from an immigrant. I am here only for some 20+ years and did not pay yet all my dues to this great country. But I am getting there.

As I recall, Gov. Lamm once made a remark to the effect that old people had an obligation to die rather than soak up wasted medical and social resources.

If that's what an "old school" Democrat is or was, then I'm glad I'm not one.

Its probably too late now, but would the immigration have been such a problem if we had just demanded that they assimilate. No bilingualism, english only in the schools, english only on the ballots, english only in the work place.

If you want to come to America, become American.

All of this is true, and probably inevitable. The culteral damage we have suffered is probably irreversible.

I disagree that Dick Lamm is a Zell Miller type Democrat. He is a hard-core anti-growth pro-abortion ZPG type environmentalist. His campaign to restrict immigration stems from his anti-growth, fear of overpopulation views, not out of any kind of conservatism.

"History shows that no nation can survive the tension, conflict, and antagonism of two or more competing languages and cultures." - R.D. Lamm

Does Dick Lamm know about Switzerland?

Does anyone have an explanation for the Swiss exception to the rule?

A brilliant college professor named Victor Hansen Davis talked about his latest book, "Mexifornia,"

His name is Victor Davis Hanson.

The following is the first paragraph of Lamm's revised speech which he, himself, submitted. He's admitting that he hates America and would like to see it destroyed. I would hardly call him a Zell Miller Democrat.

I HAVE A SECRET PLAN TO DESTROY AMERICA. IF YOU BELIEVE, AS MANY DO, THAT AMERICA IS TOO SMUG, TOO WHITE BREAD, TOO SELF-SATISFIED, TOO RICH, LETS DESTROY AMERICA. IT IS NOT THAT HARD TO DO. HISTORY SHOWS THAT NATIONS ARE MORE FRAGILE THAN THEIR CITIZENS THINK. NO NATION IN HISTORY HAS SURVIVED THE RAVAGES OF TIME. ARNOLD TOYNBEE OBSERVED THAT ALL GREAT CIVILIZATIONS RISE AND THEY ALL FALL, AND THAT "AN AUTOPSY OF HISTORY WOULD SHOW THAT ALL GREAT NATIONS COMMIT SUICIDE."

Speaking of Lamm, you said:

This is an "old school" democrat. A Harry Truman, Zell Miller type. Too bad there are so few of them.

But I don't think Zell or Harry ever believed "old people have a duty to die." (paraphrased)

I'm sure most Coloradoans remember that famous line?
