Richard D. Lamm: A Frightening Analysis (A MUST READ)
Snopes.com ^ | August 18, 2005 | Richard D. Lamm

Richard D. Lamm was a Democrat who served as governor of Colorado for twelve years from 1975 to 1987. Of the above-quoted third person account regarding his speech on the perils of multiculturalism, he told us in mid-June 2005: A Frightening Analysis We all know Dick Lamm as the former Governor of Colorado. In that context his thoughts are particularly poignant. Last week there was an immigration-overpopulation conference in Washington, DC, filled to capacity by many of American's finest minds and leaders. A brilliant college professor named Victor Hansen Davis talked about his latest book, "Mexifornia," explaining how immigration — both legal and illegal — was destroying the entire state of California. He said it would march across the country until it destroyed all vestiges of The American Dream. Moments later, former Colorado Governor Richard D. Lamm stood up and gave a stunning speech on how to destroy America. The audience sat spellbound ...

I disagree that Dick Lamm is a Zell Miller type Democrat. He is a hard-core anti-growth pro-abortion ZPG type environmentalist. His campaign to restrict immigration stems from his anti-growth, fear of overpopulation views, not out of any kind of conservatism.

You are absolutely right. When he was Governor of Colorado he thought he could limit growth by refusing to build interstate highways in Denver. He bought into the idea that the highways were a self-fulfilling prophecy that caused growth. He was wrong! The growth happened anyway and Denver is just beginning to build itself out of the neglect that was caused by refusing to expand the highway system and traffic is still a nightmare.

Nevertheless, regardless of his motives, Lamm is still right about immigration and the effect it is having on our country and culture. 9/11 would never have happened if we were still the salt and pepper society that existed prior to Kennedy's 1965 Immigration Reform.

I believe you are talking about Lamm driving "a silver stake" (his words) in E-470. You're right, the growth happened anyway and the delay in building that road created a traffic nightmare.

My point is simply to warn my immigration-hawk conservative friends that while Lamm is an ally on this one issue, that dog has fleas.

"History shows that no nation can survive the tension, conflict, and antagonism of two or more competing languages and cultures." - R.D. Lamm

Does Dick Lamm know about Switzerland?

Does anyone have an explanation for the Swiss exception to the rule?

I didn't post this article because I like democrats, or support anything they stand for.

I posted this to show that some democrats do get what's happening to America and how dangerous it is. These are social issues only .. and on this ONE ISSUE - multiculturism - Lamm got it right.

Can't anybody celebrate that .. instead of whining and complaining about all the other stuff you don't like ..??

Sheeeeeeesh!!

Why does there have to be an explanation .. this is only Lamm's opinion!

"probably irreversible"

I don't think so. It's going to be hard work .. but we're more than up to the challenge.

I was not aware of his previous statements .. so I was basing my assessment of the article on the accurateness of the situation currently happening in America.

Please don't get me wrong, I think it's a great article and very true. I think Lamm has even apologized for making his senior citizen remark anyway. I've heard Lamm speak on a lot of talk radio in Colorado lately, and I've often wondered if he might slowly be backing away from the Rat party. Hope so.

A brilliant college professor named Victor Hansen Davis talked about his latest book, "Mexifornia,"

His name is Victor Davis Hanson.

I agree .. but I hope these people don't back away from the party - these are the very people who need to take the party back from the communists/socialists/anti-war people.

Whew! I don't know what we'd do without you.

Live a happier life? Not be exposed to the pet peeves of others?

This has nothing to do with you or Lamm's speech (which I agree with), it's just that every time I see this speech with Hanson's name spelled that way, it gets on my nerves.

Now, now don't get your panties in a twist.

I wasn't reacting to you, but the post comparing Dick Lamm to Zell Miller. I know Zell Miller, and Dick Lamm is no . . .

You can't use Switzerland as an example....Switzerland is a federation...it was up to the "area" to decide if they wanted to be part of Switzerland....Switzerland is truly an International Country...the majority of the people speak 4 languages..Italian, French, German, and English. Take St. Gotthard...or San Gothario....depending on what side of the St. Gotthard tunnel your on...on the southern side...all of the cities names are Italian in origin...on the northern side..all of the city names are German in origin...the reason the Swiss have remained neutral..is that you can't side with one country or another in a war when a third of your country has ties to the country at war...the Swiss remained neutral during WWII because they didn't want their citizens killing each other.....You can't use Switzerland as an example when discussing nationality and identity...btw...the wife and I just LOVE Zurich...during the summer that is...have been twice this summer...

every time I see this speech with Hanson's name spelled that way, it gets on my nerves.

snopes.com also makes a point of getting his name correct:

Both Governor Lamm and the writer of the e-mail misidentify the author of the book Mexifornia, whose correct name is Victor Davis Hanson.

Sticklers of the world, unite!

And can we make Victor Davis Hanson National Military Historian Emeritus For Life or something? He's really good!
