Statement of Jerry Kilgore
- Regarding Herndons Decision to Fund Day Laborer Site -
RICHMOND Former Attorney General and Republican nominee for Governor Jerry Kilgore today issued the following statement regarding a decision by Herndon Town Council to spend $175,000 in taxpayer funds to support a day laborer site in the area:
Millions of people have come to this country seeking better lives for themselves and their families. Legal immigration made this country what it is today and we honor those who have followed the example of other generations by becoming hard-working, law-abiding citizens who contribute daily to our uniquely American way of life.
When we begin to use public resources to reward and encourage illegal behavior, we demean those who have followed the rules and entice others to continue to flaunt our laws. I do not believe it is too much to ask that people obey the laws of our society before they attempt to take advantage of what our society has to offer. Were the day labor centers under consideration equipped with a mechanism to verify that taxpayer dollars are not subsidizing illegal behavior, I would support them. Legally present laborers benefit our economy and their contributions are appreciated and important. However, it is likely that most of the workers for whom these centers are to be created are in fact illegally present and should not be receiving taxpayer-funded services.
As Governor, I would support legislation that clarifies Virginia law to say that those who are illegally present are not eligible for public benefits, including the expenditure of taxpayer money for services such as day labor centers.

Go Jerry Go!
We need a clone of him in Montgomery County, MD.
this guy definitaly will get my two votes...
this guy definitely will get my two votes...
This will win him the election.
This is one of those cases where we will have to accept a campaign promise at face value.
People who are already in office must be forced to take real action. Don't let them turn it into a campaign promise they may not keep. There's no reason they can't take action now.
I think all we have here is a case of one candidate upping the anty, and that doesn't give you a win! You have to wait to see what the other guy will do in response.
You mean "Monkey County"!
Pinging you.
Jerry Kilgore has already taken action about illegal aliens. He issued an opinion as AG that illegals aliens cannot be eligible for in-state tuition at state colleges and universities. This stance was not well-received by Warner or the universities.
I think Jerry is being very consistent on this issue.
Should be "flout our laws," not "flaunt our laws."

What do illegal immigrant chicks in New York have to do with taxpayer supported day labor sites in Virginia?
Exactly. He's already been a leader on this issue.
Plus, he's not currently in office. He resigned at the end of January to run for Governor.
Governor Kilgore ping.
What is your point, Rod?
President Bush is wrong on illegal immigration.

Quisling: a synonym for traitor, someone who collaborates with the invaders of his country.
These were the demonstrators who tried to stop the Carlsbad illegal immigration forum from taking place last week.
They represent the true face of the Open Borders Lobby.
This guy equates Old Glory with a Nazi Swastika.
Neo-Communists still peddling "workers of the world unite!"
A lot of the passengers in de-back-o-de-bus were "affordable housing" kids from the Reston development.
Many a time on the way home I heard them bragging about their shoplifting heists at the Tysons Corner malls. They had no bones about displaying the wares. For them, it was their "job".
Reston, a planned development next to the historic town of Herndon (the Ice House was nice), had to put in a certain amount of "affordable housing" as part of the development deal with the county.
All that did was to transplant a whole bunch of undesirables from the city, out into what was then the boonies. What did the county think they were going to do there? Where there job opportunities in the boonies? No. What else was there for them to do but get into trouble?
I'm guessing a lot of these Herndon illegals were attracted to the Reston "affordable housing" section like flies to bleep. Probably construction workers continuing the build-out of housing developments that are eating up the farmland along Leesburg Pike.
The county is reaping what they've sown. I don't know how else to put it, but urban blight belongs in urban areas.
