Rice: Israel's evacuation of the Gaza Strip is only a first step
By Haaretz Service
WASHINGTON - U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on Wednesday said that while she feels for evacuated settlers Israel will be expected to make further concessions that would ultimately lead to an independent Palestinian state.
"Everyone empathizes with what the Israelis are facing," Rice said, but added "It cannot be Gaza only."
In an interview published by the New York Times, Rice said that the Palestinian Authority must move quickly to disarm Palestinian factions intent on breaking the current cease-fire with Israel.

The Secretary of State offered sympathy for the settlers who are being evacuated from their homes in Gaza but also made it clear that she expected Israel and the Palestinians to take further steps in short order toward the creation of a Palestinian state.
Such steps would include loosening travel restrictions in the West Bank and withdrawing from more Palestinian cities.

That passage in Genesis has absolutely nothing to do with the situation in the Middle East today, unless you truly believe that God created this modern state we know as "Israel."
No, it's not. I have ZERO control over U.S. foreign policy, as do at least 99.9% of U.S. citizens today.
You just said, "That passage in Genesis has nothing to do with anything, unless you happen to believe Genesis." Um, yeah. Your point? (Note that you misread the passage. It curses those who curse the Jews, not Israel. It applied to the third Reich as much as it does today to the islamoterrorists.)
Okay, and EVERYONE knows what the Arab world real demand is, right? Which is the death and destruction of every Jew; man, woman and child in the middle east. Everyone knows this! What's up with the diplomatic farce which has been going on for almost 60 years?
And the American government gives foreign aid money to the Arab terrorists in Israel, amazing!
"For the life of me, I can't see the gameplan here."
I don't either! I thought we were friends and allies with Israel. Selling them out is not the act of a friend. What happened to "you're either with us or against us?" The Palestinians sure aren't our friends. Let the other arab nations pony up some land for the Palis. Leave little Israel alone!
Or tell her boss the policy is wrong and resign.
That she didn't indicates agreement or neutrality with the policy.
OMG, I, too am crying as I watch.
They have now brought in caged trucks reminiscent of 40's Germany to remove protesters from a synagogue. I am just in shock.

Larry, are you still researching through history for the nation of Palestine? Please let us know if you find this nation in history or if you don't.
Thanks for a voice of reason..allow me to add to it..a glance at the map shows that Israel's security buffer zone around Gaza is wider than the Gaza strip itself...it will be a no-man's land...also, sometime in the next year or Israel will have to take action against the Iranian nuke sites, and also move into southern Lebanon..they are just tighening the lines now...

And I will make of thee [Israel] a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great . . .
If the passage in Genesis that you posted refers to "Jews" in general and not "Israel" as a nation, then what difference does it make whether or not the modern state of Israel even exists?
"Sorry, what you think was Palestine was a part of Jordan called Trans-Jordan. Before that it was under British control after the Turks who were there were defeated during WW I. There was no Palestine.
Tell me when there ever was a nation named Palestine. Palestine is an area, not a nation."
Not only that, after the Israeli's defeated the combined arab nations, they offered the Trans-Jodanian "palestinians" citizenship (dual if they wished), voting rights (women also), and infrastructure. This after conflict!
"...bite the hand that feeds."
Ruefully

Thank you, I'm still waiting on Larry's response.
Oh yes it will. That's the only comforting thing about this, knowing the end already.
I promise, as long as you promise to learn to read "exactly as written". In particular, "nation" does not mean "state" in this context, it means a "people". The Jews are a "great nation" even during the diaspora.
then what difference does it make whether or not the modern state of Israel even exists?
For this discussion, no difference at all. Anyone who curses Jews, in Israel or in the diaspora, will bring down God's curse on himself. The importance of the state of Israel rests on entirely separate considerations. The regathering of the nation in the last days is prophesied in many places, including by Ezekiel and also by Jesus and John. 1948 was the beginning of the fulfilment of those prophecies, not specifically of the passage in Genesis.
I agree, but the key to this is the Border Fence. A contiguous Israel with a moat around it is the only solution; even the wise men in Likuld know this. Demographics and international politics leaves no other solution..
If the Arabs decide to attack from this base, the Israel answer no longer needs to be ambiguous, IMO.
Me too....
