Rice: Israel's evacuation of the Gaza Strip is only a first step

By Haaretz Service

WASHINGTON - U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on Wednesday said that while she feels for evacuated settlers Israel will be expected to make further concessions that would ultimately lead to an independent Palestinian state.

"Everyone empathizes with what the Israelis are facing," Rice said, but added "It cannot be Gaza only."

In an interview published by the New York Times, Rice said that the Palestinian Authority must move quickly to disarm Palestinian factions intent on breaking the current cease-fire with Israel.

The Secretary of State offered sympathy for the settlers who are being evacuated from their homes in Gaza but also made it clear that she expected Israel and the Palestinians to take further steps in short order toward the creation of a Palestinian state.

Such steps would include loosening travel restrictions in the West Bank and withdrawing from more Palestinian cities.

I think you're correct.
And when the Palis fail to control themselves, Israel can wage war on 'em as a national entity.

Joe 3:1 For, behold, in those days, and in that time, when I shall bring again the captivity of Judah and Jerusalem,

Joe 3:2 I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead with them there for my people and for my heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and parted my land.

America as a nation is in danger of being cursed!

People tend to think God's judgment comes all at once in a flash and it can happen that way but most of the time it comes gradually over a period of time as God tries to get our attention and get us to turn from what we are doing wrong so He doesn't have to be severe with us.

Man's problem is he chooses not to see or hear.

The judgment on the U.S. for the way our nation is treating Israel is already started and has been going on for some years now.

Everything we have pressured them to endure or accept is happening to our nation also.

This in addition to the judgment that has been taking place for years as a result of our nation's government turning from God and abandoning it's Christian heritage and values. It will only get worse for us at an ever increasing pace.

During the so called oil embargo we used to look out over San Francisco Bay and count the oil tankers waiting for the prices to increase so they could off load. Counted up to 17, some that had been moored there for months, so loaded down you could barely see the names on the side. That was just in the south bay. Never did count those waiting near Rodeo.

Palestine will be a nation-state and will be expected to behave like one. Legitimate governments do not sponsor terror. They can be put on the state sponsors of terror list and we can refuse to give them any aid or trade with them.
2. Once they are a country they can be invaded if clear provocation is shown.
3. It will take away a major gripe that the Arab world has against us.

___At last! An insightful understanding as to why a Palestinian state is in both Israel's and the USA's best interests.

If the new Palestinian state foments terror, it can be legitimately conquered and no one will be able to say that it didn't deserve the reprisal.

If the state is peaceful, then some sort of accommodation between Palestinian Arab and Israeli is possible and in everyone's best interest.

I believe that Sharon came into office with the belligerent attitude exhibited by so many on these Middle East threads but with the responsibility of power in his hands, he saw that a continued occupation was draining Israel and that annexation of land held by millions of Arabs was impossible.

Some sort of separate state is the solution.

Just removed Condi from my President/Vice President list. If she is hinting about splitting Jerusalem, I'm really going to be upset. Gaza worries me because it has ocean frontage. I see ships coming in with loads of munitions and how can Israel monitor them.

When Spain gave up direct jurisdiction of her territories in the America, control of California was given to Mexico until the Bear Flag revolt in Sonoma against General Vallejo. Up until that time California was considered a no man's land by most native born Mexicans who were extremely status conscious and felt a stay in California would wreck their chances for a Spanish title of nobility and a trip back to the motherland.

California land grants were controlled and managed by ethnic Spanish, who often intermarried with the natives many of which they had enslaved. Very few of Aztec or Mayan extraction were ever here and those are the ones trying to "reconquist" so to speak.

I leave it to a Texan to explain their own history.

I am in mourning for the Jewish people over this horrific series of events. I heard Dan Patrick substituting for Laura Ingraham this morning interview Ari Abrimiwitz (sp?). Dan called Ari a "Texas cowboy" who is also a Jew, because Ari left his hometown of Houston, TX, to emigrate to Israel and join the Israeli army. Ari was there yesterday when our brothers and sisters in the war against terrorism were dragged from their homes in Gaza. An interesting comment Ari made we never hear in our news media: "A common cry by the Palestinians is 'Today the Saturday people; tomorrow the Sunday people'." It gave me chills, because I believe it. We should meet Tony Blair's challenge: "Never give an inch to these people." Shame on Sharon! God bless you, Sabra! Keep the faith!

Well I think everybody has a breaking point. For me, I haven't wasted a vote for a Republican, at the federal level, since 1996. And I won't either. Not a one in the lot that has a backbone on this issue or understanding of limited government for domestic issues

Actually, the "Arabs" are late arrivals in the region. They claim descent from Ishmael, but I believe they latched on to the account in Genesis. Hagar, Ishmael's mother, was a pre Arabic invasion Egyptian. The Egyptian's of that period may have been the Hyksos, (Hittites) from what is now Turkey. This story of Jews and Arabs is as old as Mohammned, whose tome of lies is the Bizarro version of the Old and New Testaments. Mo' went on a rampage destroying Jewish, and Christian communities throughout Arabia and beyond.

Form OFEC, The Organization of Food Exporting Countries. Index the price of grain to oil, and use the grain to make ethanol for fuel. Tell the effendis to take a hike, walk a mile, and mount a camel. They can start cooking their sheep eyeballs over camel dung again! Allahu fubar!

Do you think that the Bible is only for prophecy or some sort of fortune telling magic?

The Bible is a "tool" of Divine Revelation, and does far more than just provide "prophecy" to us. The lessons that it teaches -- primarily in the New Testament -- are invalulable to our existence.

Why do you think we support Israel?

Because AIPAC is a very effective, influential lobbying group in Washington, D.C. Are you going to tell me that AIPAC is on some kind of a Divine mission here on earth?

A mainly Christian populace who know the right thing and a strong Jewish lobby that shares that. Both are rooted in the Bible and those traditions to varying degrees. To deny that is ignorance or the wishful thinking of an atheist.

There is nothing in Christianity that calls for blind, unquestioned support of the modern, secular state of Israel -- so I hardly call this "the right thing."

From a strictly religious standpoint, Christianity and Judaism are mutually exclusive and are incompatible at their roots. I suspect that most Jews are fully aware of this, which is why they have long been suspicious of the motives of Christians who claim to support Israel on religious grounds. They know that the "religion" in the minds of these Christians ain't Judaism.

I'm not that bright about these things, but it seems to me that, while this works in theory, the reality is different. We've tried expecting the Palestinian leadership to behave like a legitimate government, but they whine that they can not control the terrorists. In fact, it seems the terrorists run the show. We always fall for it and make more concessions. They talk out of both sides of their mouths depending their audience. I agree that once the ball is thrown into their lap, either they pony up or ... do we have the courage to draw the line in the concrete?

You may be right, but as long as Bush is President statehood is going to happen. We'll just have to see.
