Rice: Israel's evacuation of the Gaza Strip is only a first step

By Haaretz Service

WASHINGTON - U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on Wednesday said that while she feels for evacuated settlers Israel will be expected to make further concessions that would ultimately lead to an independent Palestinian state.

"Everyone empathizes with what the Israelis are facing," Rice said, but added "It cannot be Gaza only."

In an interview published by the New York Times, Rice said that the Palestinian Authority must move quickly to disarm Palestinian factions intent on breaking the current cease-fire with Israel.

The Secretary of State offered sympathy for the settlers who are being evacuated from their homes in Gaza but also made it clear that she expected Israel and the Palestinians to take further steps in short order toward the creation of a Palestinian state.

Such steps would include loosening travel restrictions in the West Bank and withdrawing from more Palestinian cities.

As opposed to technically wrong, yes, I prefer technically right.

They (Fox) are now saying those cages were for SWAT team members to get to the roof where the protesters were. I do not know the latest, though. My TV is off, as I find this very difficult to watch, and I am not Jewish.

Politically impossible. Even the Israeli Right knows it.

Given that the "political" situation is driven by conscious efforts by Syria, Lebanon and Egypt to create these barriers, you are of course correct. Palis in those countries are forbidden drivers' licenses, admission to universities, and all sorts of things. They are more valuable as miserable "refugees" than as a handful more prostrating worshippers of the sainted pedophile.

(Notwithstanding your religious prophesies, etc.)

Notwithstanding your mockery, Israel will survive and continue to absorb the world's Jews, Messiah will return, and the forces hostile to Israel will be wiped out. In the meantime, prophecy is completely silent on the question whether there will be a two-state division of the land. The only point on which it is crystal clear is that Israel will achieve (the appearance of) peace: "dwelling in unwalled villages, having neither bars nor gates."

So, since you appear to be throwing down the gauntlet, feel free to hold me to account for this prediction: Israel will ultimately acheive peaceful coexistence with her neighbors. I conjecture that this includes taking down the security fence, on the grounds that Ezekiel's prophecy will be fulfilled not only figuratively but literally. I conjecture purely on my own asessment of events, that this peaceful resolution will involve a two-state solution to the Palestinian problem, but that is not required. The peace will last at least long enough for the Israelis to be truly surprised when it collapses and neighboring nations again invade, so you should have no trouble spotting it when it happens.

(As a point of reference, I've made the same statements for over 20 years, and others I know have been saying it since before Israel existed. During Gulf War I, I predicted that one outcome of the war would be the pacification of Iraq, with ripple effects on the pacification of the rest of the Arab world. While obviously my conjecture was off as to timing, I make the same assertion going forward. I just wanted to be clear that I've been saying it since long before it was an obviously likely outcome of Gulf War II.)

>Our leaders have lost their minds. God save us.

"I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and makes war. His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself. He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. Out of his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. "He will rule them with an iron scepter." He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written:
"KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.
"And I saw an angel standing in the sun, who cried in a loud voice to all the birds flying in midair, "Come, gather together for the great supper of God, so that you may eat the flesh of kings, generals, and mighty men, of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all people, free and slave, small and great."

"Then I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies gathered together to make war against the rider on the horse and his army. But the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who had performed the miraculous signs on his behalf. With these signs he had deluded those who had received the mark of the beast and worshiped his image. The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur. The rest of them were killed with the sword that came out of the mouth of the rider on the horse, and all the birds gorged themselves on their flesh."

If this amounts to a "curse" on Jews, then why is the government of ISRAEL moving forward with the plan to remove these settlements from Gaza?

By "the government", you mean Sharon of course--a majority in the ruling coalition oppose the plan, and Netanyahu recently resigned as sar haotsar (how to translate? finance minister? secretary of the treasury?). Why Sharon is doing it is a good question; credible research exists that his motivation was to get more liberal members of the justice department to halt their investigation into his criminal financial activities. A crony of his appears also likely to receive much of the seized land at bargain-basement prices.

In short, the fact that Sharon is Jewish doesn't make him a friend of the Jewish people, any more than Clinton is a friend of America. Worse, folks like Sharon, and more radical-left Jews who accuse their own nation of genocide, play into the hands of antisemites (like yourself) who delight to quote antisemitic Jews in support of their own views.

Similar cages were used when removing Jewish towns in the Sinai. Essentially, they put the protesters in them and truck the cages off. I'd assume they'll be used the same way this time.

Condi is slowly going down hill.

Our policy has been, rightly so, to support Israel as an example Democracy in the middle east.

If we walk away from that commitment, what are the chances of another example, Iraq, surviving and succeeding?

I'd like to think that this is really a brilliant plan to gather the terrorists where the IDF can crack down on them without collateral damage to Israelis, but I'm afraid I don't believe it. I believe Sharon is a criminal. But, it's more than possible that you've spotted the silver lining: after the hitnatkut, reprisals against terrorist attacks will be easier to conduct, since the Jews will be out of the combat zone. So it could work out for the best in the end. Some folks I know believe this.

I wonder why Israel si always expected to sacrifice everything while the Islamic terrorists get the rewards for their terrorism. Dr. Rice and our whole middle east policy seem to be aiding the destruction of the only tiny democratic state of Israel. I wonder if this is how we spread our message of peace and democracy- by giving into islamic terrorism, bending over backwards for Islamic terrorists, Hizbollah, Hamas, CAIR, islamic civil rights blah blah blah.....

If you believe Sharon is a criminal, will you please share with us the knowledge you have of the crimes he has committed? Thank you.

You don't have to read stories - the "preaching" in the Mosques is very clear on a regular basis - the destruction of Israel MUST be accomplished. This is their ultimate goal.

Don't hold your breath waiting for the Palis to do something actually constructive.

"WASHINGTON - U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on Wednesday said that while she feels for evacuated settlers Israel will be expected to make further concessions that would ultimately lead to an independent Palestinian state."

Second Amendment or not, Rice has just lost any support I have for her. She must be mentally ill.

Gaza is indeed the first step. The final step - for Israel anyway, at least in the minds of the Phillistinians, is the total destruction of the Israeli State and re-occupation and defilement of teh Holy City by these Muslims. Then they will proceed to employ the seaports of the Holy Land to provide weaponry and explosives to their associates in western Europe.

I think the Bush administration is imploding with stupidity and lethargy.

Glad Bush put Rice in the Secretary of State position so she could expose herself for the idiot she apparently is, collegate credentials not withstanding.

what are the chances

None

We will leave Iraq which in short order will be allied with Iran and will be a powerful Islamic enemy of the US.

George Bush will leave an International mess many can not now imagine.

Read the book of Revelation. It will end when Christ returns.

Actually it ends sooner as far as Israel's immediate kinsmen neighbors are concerned.

They get theirs in War of Gog and Magog in Ezekiel 38& 39. It's next on the prophetic calender and from the looks of things not all that far off.

In Ezekiel you have just those named in it involved and it is regional in scope. In Revelation the conflict involves all the nations of the world with the whole world suffering the consequences.

That there never was a nation named Palestine is a firm fact, not a technicality.

Oh, I looked that would up, could not apply it, no way, no how to anything said by anyone here.
