LESTER HOLT: Why dont you think the Palestinians will take advantage of this opportunity?
BENJAMIN NETANYAHU: Because they havent lifted a finger against the terrorists, because Hamas terrorists and Hezbollah are saying that this is a great victory for terrorism, and they intend to continue, they say so openly. In fact, the Palestinian authorities, a collection of armed bands, and they dont lift a finger against terrorists. These people do not disarm themselves, they say they will continue to rocket our cities and send suicide bombers to kill our men, women and children. So, unfortunately, this is viewed on the Palestinian side as a great victory and a great justification for terrorism. And the victory of terrorism in one place enables terrorism elsewhere and here to. This is the tragedy of something that probably was well intentioned, but I think will be played out badly.

Go Bibi. He's the only one with the balls to tell it like it is.
/Darwinists
That's why I like him.
He's tough. If only he had Sharon's position.
..........................................
When the terrorists start slaughtering Israelis again, I predict Bibi will regain power and will be justified in taking Gaza back once and for all, NEVER TO BE RELINQUISHED AGAIN!
Yeah, but now they can take Gaza out, if that indeed is the way its gonna be..
Glad you guys think so too. I prescribed the same solution in "Gaza Pics" post. Time to take bets?
I'll bet one suicide bomber and raise you two car bombs.
..................
Bibi makes the point well that this isn't a victory because of the withdrawl per se, rather because the world has accepted their refusal to comply with any of their obligations, and rewarded them generously for it. This mistake will cost lives.
Yes, but did you notice, that Bibi, unlike President Bush's opponents and critics here in the USA...
DID tell the people in Gaza to get out. IOW, he was supportive of Sharon's right to do this...and didn't rant and rave and call him names...he just said what even Sharon probably admits, that is is a one-way deal...
and only time, tears, sacrifices, deaths, etc., will tell whether this was folly or genius.
I'm not sure whether to applaud or throw rocks, here.
Who is "their" and "them"??
This is a big mistake for Sharon. It indicates that he does not fully understand the intent of the Muslims.
I do not hear any praise from world "leaders" who have been asking for this pullout for decades. Nor is there any praise from the MSM. Israel has lost a lot and gained nothing with this move.
The palestinians, specificly Abbas and the PA, who not only haven't begun the preliminaries to the road map, cessation of incitement and dismantling of the terror groups, but have made it clear that they have no intention of taking on these tasks. Rewards, the world community, led by the US, is providing assets, despite their refusal.
I saw Jennifer Griffin interview a young woman who was being physically dragged from the synagogue this morning...
She was, of course, shouting about the stupidity of letting the terrorists win, and run them off of their land...
but, she also said something that made me choke up with pride for these young people..
She said that they would be back...if not them, their children, and if not their children, then their grandchildren.
I wish Americans (most of whom have NEVER been through what the Israelis have), would show such courage and bravery when faced with an enemy. And would show a persistence and "stick toitiviness" that it takes...
They should ask the Czech's how profitable those "land for peace" deals are.... a very sad deal this is and one that will end up being repaid in more dear precious blood.
Our chief of intelligence said today in the Knesset, in our parliamentary defense and foreign affairs committee this afternoon, he said, terror will increase; it may not happen for a couple months, I say it will happen in a year or two. But theres no question that this is viewed as a great victory for terror. As I said before, you don't defeat your enemy by rewarding him.The U.S. wants to pull out of Iraq as badly as we want to pull out of Gaza, Iraq is thousands of miles away from the U.S., Gaza is right next to Tel Aviv, you dont pull out, despite the fact that you want to get out because you know that Zarqawi would fill the vacuum, you know that, and we are pulling out and Hamas will fill the vacuum, Hamas and its ally al-Qaida. And thats the problem, its not a question of wanting to leave Gaza, its how you leave, under what conditions. And I think were going to do it in such a way where we have no reciprocity, we have no built in security, in fact weve giving Gaza a port, can you imagine giving al-Qaida a port on the Hudson?
Unfortunately, and probably for good intentions, were giving terror a reward which will result in bad consequences. Not only for us by the way, because I think Gaza could very well be, over the next couple of years, may turn out to be an invaluable base for terror, just as Lebanon used to be, because there is no government, and this I fully agree with our ambassador in Washington, youre really going to see whether Abu Masin does anything to terrorists. He hasnt lifted a finger, and I suspect hes not going to lift a finger and the result will be far from advancing the cause of peace, which I fervently want, this will set peace back and set terror forward.
If re elected he will be in position to bring great harm to Gaza with no need to be concerned about the settler enclave.
Sharon laid the strategic ground work for Bibi to exterminate the Gaza pests.
No, Mazen won't be changing. Right or wrong, the underlying concept of the withdrawl rests on the fact that there's no one to negotiate with, thus nothing to "get", at least from the palestinians. Some moral support from the west would have been nice, but a lot to ask for.
If there is no one to negotiate with, why do it? Why leaving Gaza?
