Herndon Approves Day Labor Center - hiring illegal but will not ask laborers status

I get it! If they don't know he's an illegal, he's not really illegal, right?

Mayor Michael O'Reilly

Another mental giant of our times.

He said every worker has a constitutional right to "stand on a street corner whether they have documents or not."

If you're here illegally, someone in law enforcement has the Constitutional DUTY, OBLIGATION, and RESPONSIBILITY to remove you from the country!!

We need to figure out how to give legal protections to internal Minutemen so that facilities like these can be monitored and frequent arrests made.

We also need to prosecute officials who establish sanctuary policies and others that knowingly assist illegal aliens.

I drove to see my Dad at the AFRH, in DC, last week. I pass two sites set up by Montgomery County, MD (Rockville, Tacoma Park). On New Hampshire Ave TP), I noted that the store on the corner, had four times as many "guest workers" in the lot, as the official site.

I did not hear English being spoken, at all...

"This has been a horrendously difficult issue," Mayor Michael O'Reilly said. He said every worker has a constitutional right to "stand on a street corner whether they have documents or not."

Could the esteemed (cough) Mayor point out where in the constitution this is given as a right? Effing nitwit, just babbles this kind of nonsense, and the idiots in the press parrot it without question.

Then, let's see if the Mayor can understand non-citizens are NOT entitled to ANYTHING, the Constitution is for LEGAL RESIDENTS. I am fed up and sick and tired of Constitutional rights being given to everyone BUT US CITIZENS!!!!!

If he had said "vistor", or "tourist", well, maybe - but Customs would hardly let tourists in without identification.

How insane is it, the criminals we should be locking up and deporting are allowed to stand on street corners and in parking lots, smirking, drinking, flaunting their presence, making lewd comments to the women that are unfortunate enough to be near them.

Oh, I know how to make it worse - when elected officials defend them and say they have the right to be there! Why not extend the same rights to crack dealers, Mayor? If you can turn a blind eye to their illegal status, why not say "Crack dealers can't sell crack - but they have the right to stand on the street, and cops can't ask them what they're doing there"

How much worse does it have to get before something gets done? Sorry for the rant, but I am getting fed up!

every worker has a constitutional right to "stand on a street corner whether they have documents or not."

every American has a constitutional right to "own a gun whether they have documents or not."

I like my version of the mayor's statements a lot better, and the constitution actually says my version of it.

Hmmmm, I'm wandering if Mayor Michael O'Reilly's city requires a business license in order to conduct business there?

If so, then instead of exercising their constitutional right to stand on street corners, these people would be in violation of a city ordinance.

After all, their presence on the street corner is a solicitation for and an offer of work. Their presence on the street corner is an act of advertising. Their presence on street corners is an invitation to purchase their services. In essence they are conducting a business activity.

Mr. Mayor, there are many employment agencies that are licensed, have offices, provide employment for their office staff and pay a variety of taxes and fees to the city, county and state, all in order to provide services to accommodates employees and employers. These people standing on street corners are in direct competition with the employment agencies and have an unfair advantage in that they are absolved of any responsibility to adhere to rules and regulations thus creating unfair competition.

Why is your office, Mr. Mayor, engaging in selective enforcement? Why is your office allowing activities to be carried out by illegals that would be cause for civil or criminal prosecution of citizens and legal immigrants?

Do INS Agents ever "visit" these types of facilities to make spot checks? It seems like it would be like shooting fish in a barrel to help make arrest quotas.

[[Supporters cited the biblical exhortation to love thy neighbor and begged the council not to allow the community to turn its back on its less-fortunate members.]]

The less fortunate??? WTF is he taking about? These people are in this country ILLEGALLY and breaking US law.

I am telling you people, the way to attack this problem is through the IRS by making everybody realize that this is about TAX EVASION, both by these illegal workers and especially by the employers that hire them. If you or me were working under the table and not paying taxes, our asses would be in jail, yet these dam wetbacks and the people that hire them get off scott free.

Watch that town back in Virginia really become a magnet. The word will spread, by word of mouth, all the way to the border to dusty villages, though Spanish newspapers, by way of "human rights organizations", all the way down to the coyotes. They'll know the name "Herndon" just as much as they'll know "North Carolina" or "Montgomery County". How stupid can elected officials be? They must be on the take.

I'm pretty pissed off.

I live in Herndon, although I don't live within the corporate limits so I don't pay Herndon City taxes, and it is just mind-boggling.

Another public official who bloviates about "rights" of illegal aliens and ignores the Constitution of The United States of America. There is nothing mayor that is "difficult" about this issue.

I hope Judicial Watch follows through with this and takes this to court.

Day Laborer Site is Designed to Facilitate Illegal Activity
Statement by Tom Fitton of Judicial Watch
August 17, 2005

(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton offered the following statement today to the Herndon Town Council as it considered a proposal by "Project Hope and Harmony" to operate a taxpayer-funded "Day Laborer Site" in the Town of Herndon:

"Thank you, Mayor and members of the Town Council. I'm Tom Fitton, President of Judicial Watch, a government watchdog group based in Washington, D.C. Judicial Watch is honored to represent concerned Herndon citizens who adamantly oppose this proposed use of taxpayer monies for illegal purposes. They are prepared to sue the Town of Herndon if you approve this site and they will go to court to stop the Town from violating the law. We sent you a letter to this effect on August 12, and I request that the letter be made part of the public record.

"The law is clear. Can one hire undocumented workers? No, it is illegal. Can one hire someone without ensuring they are legally eligible to work here? No, it is illegal.

"It is illegal to 'encourage or induce an alien to come to, enter, or reside in the United States, knowing or in reckless disregard of the fact that such coming to, entry, or residence is or will be in violation of law.' It is illegal to aid or abet the commission of such acts.

"Can a town expend taxpayer monies or provide support to facilitate such illegal activities? Of course not. This proposed site is designed to facilitate illegal activity: the illegal hiring of illegal aliens.

"So, can the Town Council approve this plan? For the Town Council to recommend this plan would be illegal under federal law. But it would also be illegal under Virginia law. Any town support for this site would constitute an ultra vires act, since no public official has any inherent power to authorize or facilitate unlawful acts using taxpayer funds. Support for this site is not an option.

"The Town of Herndon has allowed illegal activity to go on unchecked at the 7-Eleven and elsewhere. The solution is not local taxpayer support for this illegal activity. The area around the 7-Eleven is the illegal day labor equivalent of a red-light district. Law enforcement is in order, not taxpayer subsidies.

"The Planning Commission has seen reason and rejected this ill-conceived plan. Under the laws of this Commonwealth, and under the laws of the United States, you must also decline to support this proposal. Otherwise, Judicial Watch and its Herndon resident clients will see the Town of Herndon in court.

"Thank you."

Uh, no, they do not. If they are here illegally, they have no right to stand ANYWHERE in this country. This guy is so clearly stupid he should be put away for his own good. It's a wonder he can dress himself.
