Elementary schools shouldn't be teaching homosexuality
The Denver Post ^ | August 17, 2005 | Al Kinght

The Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) has been busy for 10 years ... creating gay student groups at hundreds of high schools and passing laws or regulations that limit or eliminate harassment aimed at homosexuals....The organization has also used part of its $4.3 million budget to promote a reading list for students as young as those in kindergarten....

At the high school level, some of this indoctrination might be excused on the grounds that students are old enough to make personal choices and maybe some of them can define terms like "sexuality" and "gender."

No such excuse can be made for this kind of social indoctrination at the elementary level.

The very idea that GLSEN and other groups are busy offering "educational resources" or training programs to elementary school teachers in order to create a more "affirming environment" for gay students is appalling....

Kindergarteners shouldn't be taught about any kind of sexuality. It is the job and the prerogative of parents.

I couldn't agree more! There is absolutely no reason that a 5 year old needs to be learning about this at all.

The pernicious route that many gay and lesbian activist programs has taken is one that has gone beyond requests for tolerance and morphed into demands for acceptance and demands that acceptance, not tolerance, must taught in the school and required by human resource regulations on the job.

A demand for acceptance, as opposed to tolerance, and particularly that government agencies enforce acceptance is the opposite of a tolerant, non-discriminatory regime. A demand for acceptance is itself discriminatory, patently so and an enfringment of everyone's first amendment rights.

Tolerance is reflected by behavior, not belief. It represents a request that no matter what your beliefs are that you behave in a tolerant respectful manner towards others. It does not require that you change your beliefs and accept those you disagree with. It only asks that you respect their rights as long as they respect yours.

A demand that you accept them does not respect your rights, and further, a demand that you be required to adopt their acceptance as your own belief, or a belief taught to your children, is nothing other than an attempt at thought control right out of 1984 - and it doesn't work. It sets up a reality based on fictions which everyone knows are fictions but which no one publicly denies. It is a dysfunctional society that is contrary to human nature. It would look exactly like Orwell's "animal farm".

Tolerance is teaching children simply to be nice to each other and a demand for acceptance is an attempt to teach children that they are required to like and approve of each other, no matter what. One is a moderate request, the other is fascist and has no place, even in a "tolerant" America.

Children need very little information to learn tolerance. It does not require a specific curriculum concerning "tolerance", with slides and demonstrations. It can be achieved essentially by the behavior the teacher demonstrates and the behavior the teacher demands between the students. By example and rules of decorum, children are taught to behave respectfully toward others, they are not taught they must embrace the beliefs of others.

Congratulations on your decision to remove your children from the government schools. Just curious - are you putting them in another school or homeschooling this year?

I was a public school teacher for 7 years. We were taught to be inclusive in our class discussions and homework. For example, math teachers were to include Hispanic names in their story problems so that Hispanic students could identify more with them and so that other students could get used to having people of other ethnicity around. I have no problem with that. We were also told to include stories of different family structure for the same reasons. So the math teacher was to make sure there were two moms or two dads sometimes in the story problems. That is a huge difference for me and I couldn't ever do that!

When you go to a school and ask about their curriculum, be sure to ask if the staff has been trained to be inclusive of homosexuals and homosexual families across the curriculum areas. This is not just something that is limited to health class.

We are trying homeschool. We are keeping an open mind towards private school, but I think homeschool will work.

I have wondered how many long term teachers out there are tired of this propoganda. Im sure many are against it, but with it being there livelyhood, many feel like they dont have a choice. But life is a series of choices, isnt it. And our decisions, when chosen poorly, result in consequences.

"Im ready for serious action on this topic. Need some support. My community is supportive but unwilling to rock the boat here in our perfect bedroom community with the 'best public schools' "

I understand. I had to say goodbye to my own brother, niece and nephew because his wife is an ultra-lib schoolteacher who pushed the rest of the family out of my niece's confirmation because they were having a lesbian sponsor and felt the rest of the family would be too bigoted to accept it. Hell, yes!

But this is one of the most important battles we can fight for the future of our country. One of the Soviets' first techniques for overcoming a nation was to insist on teaching about Marxist sexuality (anti-Christian hedonism) in schools. We're next.

There are a lot of organizations and web sites that can provide materials that will help you and strengthen your debates.

* Focus on the Family http://www.family.org/ has piles of stuff, including an excellent political magazine called Citizen http://www.family.org/cforum/

* Coral Ridge ministry has lots of materials http://www.coralridge.org/

* The Alliance Defense Fund is a legal group that will help fight religious discrimination cases www.alliancedefensefund.org/

* The Heritage Foundation web site has piles of studies and papers that could be used in a discussion with a school board http://www.heritage.org/about/searchresults.cfm

* The Family Research Council is a Washington, DC, think tank. FRC also has a pile of excellent footnoted papers on its web site www.frc.org/

* The CDC (Centers for Disease Control) has piles of online statistics related to HIV/AIDS, divided by heterosexual/homosexual contact
http://www.cdc.gov/hiv/

* There are many other pro-family and ex-gay sites on the web.

The truth shall set you free!

I passed this on to several newspapers in Arkansas:

School used to be where a child learned "Reading, Writing, & Arithmetic"

Before all you parents celebrate too much about finally getting your children off to your neighborhood public school after the long hot summer ... realize just WHO will be in charge of filling their minds and what they will be filling them with!

The NEA Teachers Union convention this summer passed a proposal to "develop a comprehensive strategy" to deal with the attacks on gay curricula, policies and practices by what the NEA calls "extremist groups" (NEA's term for parents). A big victory to its large Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Caucus

Other resolutions passed by the NEA's 2005 convention:

1. boycott Wal-Mart
2. statehood for the District of Columbia
3. affirmative action
4. opposition to private accounts in Social Security
5. opposition to capital punishment
6. gun control
7. "single-payer health care" (i.e., socialized government medicine),
8. endorsement of the International Criminal Court and the United Nations Declaration on Human Rights.
9. promote all feminist goals, including abortion for minors and taking over the baby-sitting of children "from birth through age 8" whom the NEA wants to provide with "diversity-based (homosexual) curricula" and "bias-free screening devices."

Any education resolutions?

1. teaching of global, multicultural, suicide, environmental education.
2. home-schooled students should not participate in any extracurricular activities in the public schools
3. home-schooled students should be taught only by people who are "licensed" by the state and use a curriculum approved by the state

Somehow, resolutions about the need for improvement in the teaching of phonics or basic mathematics or sciences didn't make it.

It is the parents responsibility to find out first hand WHAT your children are being taught. You will be surprised - unpleasantly so.

Be involved!

Thanks for your input. It was actually hearing about the ADF in my research that led to one thing that led to another that led to FR.

I try to talk to other parents and no one seems to have a clue. They are in denial until it hits them over the head...even conservatives. I know, it had to hit me over the head.

It's like, red flag, red flag, red flag. OH MY GOSH, this is a big MARXIST RED FLAG.

"THe situation in our school system was so alarming, I was told by an attorney NOT to go to the media. I could be sued for slander because I have no proof. We wrote the school system a letter, copied our RINO state rep and RINO Governor. NO RESPONSE from any of them."

You need to use an attorney who is experienced in civil rights law, and you need to form a coalition of other concerned parents. It only takes a few, but they should be firmly committed. See my earlier post #50 about the Alliance Defense Fund http://www.alliancedefensefund.org/

"...gay and lesbian activist programs ...demand... that acceptance, not tolerance, must taught in the school and required by human resource regulations on the job. "

Exactly the problem -- and why it is so critical that the judges appointed to all our courts be strict constructionists, not social re-engineers. Do whatever you can to let your legislators and Senators, both state and Federal, know your preference for "originalists", and if there are elections for judges in your locality, demand that local newspapers find out their positions about family law.

I have taken them to a few concerts. I just feel they are too young to attend alone and I wouldn't allow them to see certain bands such as bands that promote drugs or devil worshipping.

This is one of the stated goals of GSLEN, to get around any opt-out demands of parents from a single class like "health" where homosexuality may be taught. They seek to integrate it completely across the curriculum so that No Child's Behind Is Safe.
