WHISKEYTOWN, Calif. -- Dick McDermott knows these parts as well as any man can. But McDermott says he's never laid eyes on the nearly 400-foot waterfall that park officials recently discovered in a remote corner of the Whiskeytown National Recreation Area, 43,000 acres of wilderness in northern California.
The 92-year-old used to earn a meager living mining the creeks that meander through the deeply wooded hills. He has slogged through the brush and hiked overgrown logging roads, hunting deer and gathering wood for his homemade fiddles.
Water cascades down the recently discovered "Whiskeytown Falls, located in the Whiskeytown National Recreation Area, near Redding, Calif., Thursday, Aug. 4, 2005. Park officials will begin construction of a trail to the nearly 400-foot waterfall that flows down Crystal Creek, to allow park visitors easier access. While the park has been open for 40 years, the park staff was unaware of the falls existence until recently.(AP Photo/Rich Pedroncelli)

Yep, don't you just hate it when they trip over another 400 ft waterfall must be man made global warming causing new ice melt or better yet ,,have they found big foot's secret spa in the wild?? .snicker
Bush's fault.
Water falling 400' has to make some noise when it contacts the river or rocks below. You'd have thought someone would have heard the falls before now.
There were many reports of these falls - it was only unknown to the government.
I'm surprised nobody saw this with Google Earth ;>
But I though California was so overpopulated that people have to lay down in shifts.

 It sounds like paradise!!
Actually, the waterfall has been "rediscovered".
Just like this post ;)
I unearthed a rock in my backyard just the other day.
Last official mention was 50 years ago. It's funny the USGS map didn't show the elevation change.
If that's whats coming out of the falls, I am there.
One can only dream.
And what a dream it would be.
One big drunken fantasy!!
With no hangovers.
