Mexicos acting consul in Del Rio called a crossing of the Rio Grande earlier this week by two Val Verde County Sheriffs Office investigators illegal and unacceptable. Who said Mexican officials don't have a sense of humor?

In an interview Thursday, Fernando J. Valdés Vicencio, who is currently serving as the Mexico consul here, said Lt. A person entering Mexico must report to Mexican immigration officers and to (Mexicos equivalent of) customs. Also, persons must cross at an authorized point of entry, and (the two deputies) were performing acts of authority in a place where they have no jurisdiction at all, Valdés said The old "do as I say and not as I do" ploy

This is something that has to be dealt with at the highest levels of government, Valdés added.Who ya gonna call? Borderbusters?

I've actually been to Del Rio. I seem to remember the river being a little wider there than at Brownsville. I also remember that the river didn't exactly look like it had the best water for swimming, thanks to pollution and flies.

Mexicos acting consul in Del Rio called a crossing of the Rio Grande earlier this week by two Val Verde County Sheriffs Office investigators illegal and unacceptable.
But, he added, he values the close working relationship members of the consulate and the sheriffs office have built over the years and said he hopes the incident will further open the lines of communication between the two agencies.
In an interview Thursday, Fernando J. Valdés Vicencio, who is currently serving as the Mexico consul here, said Lt. Larry Pope, who heads the sheriffs office criminal investigations division, and VVSO Sgt. James McGonagill, who is also assigned to the criminal investigations division, violated Mexican law when they crossed the Rio Grande to retrieve property stolen from the U.S. side.

Also, persons must cross at an authorized point of entry, and (the two deputies) were performing acts of authority in a place where they have no jurisdiction at all, Valdés said. Oh, but we were just following the fine example set by your folks coming here.

It certainly seems to me that we should oblige Senor Valdes, and build a border wall. We wouldn't want this to happen again...
