America is the land of opportunity, not the land of welfare, but apparently, when the lady in the harbor says bring me your tired, your poor and your huddled masses, some seem to think that there is an open door. They seem to forget that entry to this nation is by invitation only. Forgotten are those with malicious intent for the benefit of those seeking short-cuts.

Yeah - well - "W" messed around long enough to leave a vacuum at the Mexican border, so now Jezebel has been sucked into it.
Welfare is what happens when the citizens of a nation allow socialists to frame a motto that self seeking politicians gloam onto and force onto the populace a duty that is not Constitutional. That duty being to save the world while bankrupting oneself with a national debt that no one can repay while corporations are allowed to destroy the infrastructure via outsourcing, and globalists of both parties are allowed to dissolve our sovereignty and culture.
We the people of the United States has been replaced with we the people of the world, which is not a workable plan, given the people of the world hate us.
Reverse the order and you have the probable ticket for '08. Formidable,....not unbeatable, but formidable.
This is a truly laughable game.
The democrats are proposing changes in immigration and control of same, but, one has to ask the question:
What makes anyone gullible enough to think that what the democrats propose would be the same thing enacted once they resume power?
Both sides talk a great talk, when running for office, but actually putting controls on immigration in effect, or anything else the public is promised is not done.
I might just vote for Christopher Walken. ~Or write in my own name.
The only immigrant the Clinton administration ever kicked out of this country was 6 year old Elian Gonzales.
And it took Janet Reno's storm troopers to do it. I guess the thought of facing adults (unless they were in a small, highly combustible compound in Waco, TX) was too much for them to handle.
But Bush does have to crack down on the problem. Vincente Fox is doing neither him nor us any favors, and the Dems will try to pretend they actually care about this enough to deny entry to more Democrat voters!
The Pres just needs to keep saying that his "friends" across the aisle have made a good case, and convinced him that the borders need to be tightened up. This keeps them off balance with respect to the Hispanic vote, and lets the Pres claim credit for doing this long overdue chore.
Sorry but I ain't buying your bridge to Brooklyn.
I see Dane is at it early this morning. I suggest that everyone IGNORE any comments Dane makes and respond the legitimate comments only. It obvious to many that Dane has an abnormal fixation on Hitlery, and name calling.
LOL! I will let lurkers notice the irony of your above italicized comment, while you ignore the big lie being perpetuated by the hillary/richardson/napolitano team.
Actually, it was an elitist socialite from the Upper West Side that penned the words, not the french.
Found this on the web: In "The New Colossus," Lazarus contrasts the soon-to-be installed symbol of the United States with what many consider the perfect symbol of the Greek and Roman era, the Colossus of Rhodes. Her comparison proved appropriate, for Bartholdi himself created the Statue of Liberty with the well-known Colossus in mind. What Bartholdi did not intend, however, was for the Statue of Liberty to become a symbol of welcome for thousands of European immigrants. As political propaganda for France, the Statue of Liberty was first intended to be a path of enlightenment for the countries of Europe still battling tyranny and oppression. Lazarus' words, however, turned that idea on its head: the Statue of Liberty would forever on be considered a beacon of welcome for immigrants leaving their mother countries.
Yeah, good ol' William Richardson, the so-called "hispanic" governor of New Mexico... there's a killer candidate for you!
</sarcasm>
Of course this confronts whether Pubbies really *want* to enforce existing law. Too many businesses, corporate and private farms, hotels/motels, etc. benefit from ultra-cheap illegal labor, not to mention homeowners who hire them as housekeepers, housecleaners, gardeners, cooks, roofers, etc.
Of course the Dems really don't mean what they say, as usual. If they assume power again nothing will change because the Dem contributors benefit every bit as much as Pubbies. But it's a brilliant campaign tactic that taps into a deep and strong (and perhaps hypocritical) public dissatisfaction. The White House had better watch this one!
I'm writing this before reading the whole thread so apologies if it duplicates what someone else has to say.
As a general rule it does take more than two punches to win a fight. However, when one person refuses to raise their hands up to defend themselves, two quick punches is about all it takes.
He's a Superfreak.
Those words on the statue of liberty are a good example of the power of propaganda in just the right place and how small, ill-advised acts can have large consequences.
