Ride With Armstrong Among Bush's Plans

By NEDRA PICKLER The Associated Press Sunday, August 14, 2005; 6:49 PM

WACO, Texas -- President Bush is getting plenty of bike time during his ranch vacation and next weekend he even gets to hit the trails with seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong.

Armstrong told ABC's "This Week" on Sunday that he'll travel to Crawford, Texas, next Saturday to ride mountain bikes with the president around Bush's ranch.

"It's a dream scenario for me," Armstrong said. "Now that President Bush doesn't run anymore, he rides his mountain bike fanatically. People wonder why he's stays at the ranch so long, it might be the mountain bike trails."

It also must be a dream scenario for Bush to ride with Armstrong, a fellow Texan and cancer survivor who last month won his most recent Tour de France. Bush has become an avid biker in the last couple of years, after a knee injury forced him to give up his jogging routine.

"Like a lot of baby boomers, my knees gave out," Bush explained to seven journalists who accompanied him on a two-hour ride Saturday. "And I believe that mountain biking is going to be an outlet for a lot of people my age. I'm 59, and people are going to realize you get as much aerobic exercise _ if not more on the mountain bike _ without being hobbled."

Bush said he considers exercise good preventive medicine and "part of living a disciplined life." He said he is trying to set an example to more Americans to exercise.

This should be perfect for Lance and his girlfriend, Sheryl Crow. Lance can ride with the President, and Sheryl can call President Bush the Great Satan with Cindy Sheehan.

From the article: where riders often shave their legs and wear Lycra shorts.

What's the over/under that Kerry shaves his legs? (or MoonbatReza does it for him?)

I'm not sure you should've have used SevenOfNine as a handle, people might think you look like Jeri Ryan.

Or, they might think of it as a come-on. I seem to remember a woman called GreenEyedBlonde or some such. She got banned after a while. I always thought she was a massage parlor.

Also, Trekkies might be offended. There are some geek types on FR.

Just a helpful hint, work on your syntax. It's easy to tell you're not a native English speaker, but that's OK.

As long as you're a conservative.

I agree. This is very different from when W pitched the first ball in Yankee Stadium after 9/11.... (watching/wondering).

There's a much greater chance of Armstrong becoming more like Bush than the opposite.

I doubt they'll talk politics - their shared interest is biking.

She's been here since 2002 with no problems, so I don't think you have to be worried for her.

Armstong is an American hero and a fine example, with regard to his comeback from cancer and his record at the Tour de France. I think it would belittle Bush if he were to worry about the politics of every figure he associated with. He is the President of the UNITED States, not the 'divided states'.

You're kidding, right? If not, get over yourself! Sevenofnine has been here longer than you. "She don't need no stinkin' hints."

Sorry if I offended anyone. My apologies.

I'm a fan of Star Trek, Jeri Ryan, and the name caught my attention.

I've worked most of my life with foreigners (mostly engineers) and the syntax stuck as something I'd heard before. I was always helpful and welcoming to immigrants, offering advice in a kind way.

Sorry again, it was pretty late and I was trying to write myself to sleep.
