Iran warns Bush against attack

Iran has warned US President George W Bush that he would be making a mistake to use force against the Islamic republic over its nuclear program.

The US President on Friday refused to rule out the use of force against Iran over its resumption of nuclear activities, saying "all options are on the table."

The warning from Iran's foreign ministry came as ultra-conservative President Mahmood Ahmadinejad unveiled his new cabinet, including several hardliners.

"Bush should know that our capabilities are much greater than those of the United States," foreign ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi told reporters.

"We don't think that the United States will make such a mistake."

Bush told Israeli television: "The use of force is the last option for any president. You know we have used force in the recent past to secure our country," he said in a clear reference to Iraq, which the United States invaded in March 2003.

"I have been willing to do so as a last resort in order to secure the country and provide the opportunity for people to live in free societies."

Mr Ahmadinejad, who won a shock election victory in June, has promised a "government of moderation" although his opponents have portrayed him as an extremist.

A confidence vote is due to be held within a week on the 21 members of the new government submitted to Parliament on Sunday to replace the administration of former reformist president Mohammad Khatami.

Among the key appointments, Mr Ahmadinejad proposed Ali Saidloo, his successor as mayor of Tehran, as oil minister of the OPEC member state, and conservative MP Manoushehr Mottaki as foreign minister.

Mr Saidloo is a relative unknown in Iranian politics, but Mr Mottaki has served as ambassador to Japan and Turkey.

Mr Ahmadinejad chose the former head of a strict religious tribunal, Gholamhossein Mohseni-Ejei, to head the intelligence ministry.

President Bush is ultra-conservative? THAT would be headline news if it were suddenly true.

Would the media really put W to the right of Reagan?

1. They meant the Iranian was ultra conservative.

2. They really kicked Israel's butt last time.

3. Now that we are fighting an unconventional war, why not just make a few of these guys dissappear?

Yeah, let's show them that we also know how to fight an assymetrical war. It'd be our pleasure!

The reality of it is, as hard as it may be to admit, Iran could wipe us out with just one warhead in just the right spot.
They already have a missile capable of delivery from an adequate range. They also have ships that can bring them well within range. In fact, they just tested one claiming it a failure, when in fact it was as success. The missile exploded 200 miles above earth. This same missile carrying a nuclear warhead launched from 150 miles at sea, could reach Kansas. Exploded 200 miles above Kansas and the EMP (electromagnetic pulse) effect produced would make useless anything in North America dependant on a computer chip. It would instantly put us back in the 1800's technologically.
We have become, and our military has been made entirely too technologically dependant. Currently our whole advantage is because of our extreme technology.
This scenario would effectively level the playing field, and is not far-fetched at all. It is a very real posibility.

Fortunately the Cold War left us with a system devised for Mutual Assured Destruction. 1 nuclear warhead would not prevent us from turning the whole of Iran into a wasteland for 1,000 years.

They feared the Soviets would try to eliminate the ability of the US to retaliate in the event of a nuclear first strike so they made the system very redundant.

I have wondered about that...guerrilla opportunities don't run just in one direction. Can we not start develop an insurgent movement in Iran and ship them explosives from Iraq? Certain government assets start blowing up in Iran...and we say, gee whiz ain't that a shame.

"Bush should know that our capabilities are much greater than those of the United States,"

In what area would this be, beating up their women? Granted, they win in torture of their own people.

Let's give them the option to betray their Arab brothers. And join us against them. Shazam! Powerful ally. Most favored nation. No shots fired. No radiation to wait a zillion years for. Betrayers? Nah! Realists. In keeping with their growing reputation as the most enlightened country in the Arab world. And true friend of Freedom.

The rest of the Arab world will really be wearing "soiled" sheets.

This is why we have a Navy, why we have satellites, and if need be, why we have special forces.

I think you're overrating Iran's strike capabilities, and underestimating our defensive capabilities.

If they are building these reactors for energy why are they covering up all the details and hiding the workers in deep bunkers? Why would they reject the EU building nuclear powerplants for them that can't be used for weapons? The EU better wake up before they get nuked. The Iran situation is more obvious to my 10 y/o nephew than these europeons.

A few tactical nukes should fix up their reactors nicely. The Islamofacists should get weekly nukes until they become happy peaceful lambs, like the Japs.

The Japs were considered as violent and as fanatical in 1945 as the mooselimbs today. They were also an enemy unafraid to die for their "god".
