SHOTS FIRED! (Property owner reported to have fired gun in air near Camp Cindy)
Lone Star Iconoclast ^ | 10:15am (Central) August 14, 2005 | Deborah Mathews - reporting for The Iconoclast

Camp Casey is becoming very organized, with how-to signs placed about. Ann Wright said, "That's what we are trying to do."

Let me read you the schedule posted on a tree: "9:15 camp meeting; 10 a.m. inter-faith service, 10:30 a.m., "Food-Not-Bombs Breakfast at Peace House," and....

"Wait! Someone is firing a gun. (pause). He fired it into the air about five times. He appears to be a local inside the fence line on private property. Now he has thrown what looks like a shotgun into the front seat of a pickup, and he's stomping off out of sight. I wonder where he went.

"Now he's coming back out. I'm out here standing on the road. He's got a no parking sign in his hand, walking toward his fence. I'm going to go try to talk to him. I've got to hang up."

(three minutes later)

I went over and talked to the man. He is Larry Mattlage, who says he is on his property and just posted a no-parking sign.

"We're going to start doing our war and it's going to be underneath the law," he told me. "Whatever it takes. So y'all go find another place to do whatever you do. 'Cause this is our front yard and back yard."

I asked, "Do you mean the protestors?"

Wait.....now there's some Secret Service and cops. I'm going to get closer to hear what they're saying. People in bullet-proof vests are here now. Two Secret Service agents are now walking up his driveway towards his house, with Mr. Mattlage. A member of the Sheriff's Department has arrived. Mr. Mattlage is waving his arms now. All of them are now walking back this way.

Now they are between the lane and the house. He's at the fence now. Let me record what they are saying. I'll call right back.

I have fired a number of them. A real kick in the pants I tell ya. :-)

They are. The only one I've ever fired was an M-2 Carbine. Which broke about half way through the second magazine. :) Turned out to be a non mil-spec slide, for which the owner had several replacements back at the house. The guy who owned it also had a 1919-A4, converted to 7.62 NATO, and his own, self manufactured (from a Kit) M-79. He paid the unconstitutional tax on all of them. He only had practice "marker" rounds for the Bloop Tube though.

Texas Fire Ants have been "taking the war to the enemy" quite effectively. ;-)

While I'm sure they've been doing yeoman work, they aren't Texas Fire Ants. They are illegal alien ants from south of the border, way, way south of the border.

Cindy Sheehan said it was okay if the man fired his gun on his own property, so long as the bullets remained on his property as well. Well, how authoritative of her!

I keep getting visions of Jonestown. I can't explain it.

They make enough noise to make folks nervous tho

One Fourth of July, when we ran out of fireworks, we shifted to shotguns. Of course the town was smaller than Crawford by a factor of two or so, and we lived right on the edge of it. Nearest house in the direction we were shooting was at least 1/2 mile, maybe more. Only time I've fired a shotgun in the dark. That's impressive all by itself.

If these bungholes weren't around, would anyone even report the shooting?

Of course not, why would anyone report a common and perfectly legal event?

The lefties are salivating at the notion of bringing the war here, a la Kent State.

This is Texas. That would not be a Good Idea.

A truck with a pressurized hose outlet to the side might work. Vacumn pumps are used in the field. Someone must have the right equiptment down there.

A tractor with a power take off (PTO) hooked to a "honey wagon" will do the job. You just put up the "spreader" plate that goes in front of the inlet/outlet, and set the pump to empty the wagon rather than fill it. Did that once a long time ago with my cousin when he was doing a neighbor's chores while the neighbor was on vacation. (mid summer when not much is happening on a farm, other than taking care of the animals). Grass and corn grew real well down in that corner of the field that year. :)

'Course it will get both sides of the road, unless you do it from inside the fence on the side of the road you wish to target.

Wonder if we should call the Sheriff's office and tell them this man's info is now plastered on the internet.

Since it was on that Angus breeders site, it was already public domain.

interview in wav file just done by Deborah Mathews and Larry Mattlage....

That old boy is P.O'd. Big time. Those folks, both groups on his road, had best back the FReep Off. He's already pretty close to the end of his rope, and when he reaches it, it's not going to be pretty.

Time for the county Sheriff to read the riot act, and clear the road.

That said, his "war of the porta potties" is hilarious.

If you like feedlots you would love the area up around Amarillo, Dumas and Herford.

I've got roots in Dumas as my Mother was raised on a farm not too far from town. My Grandmother lived in Dumas for as long as I can remember. Numerous aunts, uncles and cousins were born there and a number still live there. My cousin was mayor of Dumas several years ago.

I have fond memories of times spent in Dumas. One year I rode in the Dogie Days parade. Heck, I even got to "drive" a combine for a short time during wheat harvest. Pretty heady stuff for a big city girl from Houston.

(You couldn't always smell the feedlots, usually it was when the wind was blowing in just the right direction.) ;^)

We could talk guns again but I think that was covered. LOL.

I have to go down to Waco next week but the guy I'm going with isn't political. I don't think we'll make it to Crawford.

It would be nice though. I would like to shake that rancher's hand and meet some Freepers.
