Three women facing death threats appeared in public under heavy security last night to denounce a provincial move that would allow Muslims here to settle family disputes in accordance with religious laws, outside the court system.
The activists, including Dutch parliamentarian Ayaan Hirsi Ali, say the religious laws known as sharia discriminate against women. "Why, if you have equal rights in Canada, would you take them away from Muslim women?" Hirsi Ali asked.
She was joined by Iran's Homa Arjomand and Irshad Manji in a University of Toronto auditorium for an event in support of the International Campaign Against Sharia Court in Canada.
Hirsi Ali scripted a controversial film on women and Islam called Submission, whose director, Theo van Gogh, was killed on an Amsterdam street last November because of its critical view of how Muslim women are treated within their religion. The Dutch-born Muslim later convicted left a note pinned to van Gogh's body with a knife, threatening Hirsi Ali's life.
Arjomand, who fled Iran in 1989, heads the campaign to stop sharia in Ontario.
Toronto journalist Manji has also written and spoken critically about the treatment of Muslim women. All three women have received death threats.
Sharia, a broad set of laws derived from the Qur'an and sayings of Mohammed, is being considered in a limited way under Ontario's Arbitration Act, a law that allows religious groups such as Catholics and Orthodox Jews to mediate marital and family disputes as long as all participants agree and rulings don't contravene Canadian law.
But opponents say women will be treated unfairly if it's used. "All religions — Judaism, Christianity, Islam — in dealing with family law tend to discriminate against women," Hirsi Ali said. "Sharia law is very explicit. Men are guardians of women. Women are supposed to take permission from their husbands."
Submission was screened at the event. In one vignette, a Muslim woman has sex with her boyfriend. He leaves her and she is flogged. "That's what sharia would look like," Hirsi Ali said.

I agree that Islam discriminates against women but anyone who has been through a divorce or custody battle in the U.S. knows that our system founded on Judeo-Christian values is anti-male.
The first mistake was letting them in the door.

I wrote this some time ago, and while I wish I could change what is said, I cannot, nor will I, retract a single word of it:

The entire West ( dare I say "the civilized World?" ) is locked in a fight to the death with militant Islam.
There will be no second-place winner, no "third way" solution-- it is March or Die time, folks.
It is Us versus an eighth-century "culture" of plunder & pillage, forced religious "conversions," and the mistreatment of women.
The sooner we face up to this fact realistically and quit dancing around PC talking-point nonsense about diversity and tolerance, the better off we'll all be.
We did not pick this fight- which really has roots in Jimmy Carter's appeasement in 1979 of militants- but we had damned well better see it for what it is, and be prepared to face it and finish it.
I'll put it in raw, personal terms-- I don't want Sharia law visited upon my women, and I don't want a goat-roper "culture" infesting my land.
I don't want their vile, nasty, loathsome weapons of mass destruction loosed upon my fair country, either.
They picked the fight, and now it is up to us to finish it- balls to the wall, hammer and anvil, fire and blood and iron... freedom is never, ever free, and the coin you pay it in is men's lives and tears and blood.
What we saw during Gulf War I was our military doctrine ( high tech ) versus Soviet doctrine ( throw a lot of low tech iron at the problem )-- and we all know how that turned out.
What we saw in the 3-Week War is Information-Tech,
( What some are calling it Hyperwarfare... )
or 21st Century warfare versus 20th Century...
What I would suggest, and call your attention to, is the fact that we, and Israel, are capable of waging 21st Century warfare, and the entire Arab world is not.
Proven fact, by recent events.
One more thing- this will be a war where we are all called to be warriors- so I very strongly suggest to you that the time has come to get hard, and stay hard... it really is the time for Fire and Blood and Iron...
And a final word...
Yes, I am painfully aware that much of our, and Western, culture is decadent-- our children are encouraged and taught to be little thugs and whores, the cesspool that we call popular culture ( movies, advertising, and TV ) makes pornography look, if not better, at least more honest by comparison, and much of what we laud and honor is shallow and frivolous.
But I would rather live with, and deal, with that, than live under the Boot & Scimitar of Islam.

For the same reason that the French Revolution and the American Revolution were complete opposites, and determined each nation's future. The French Revolution stood for radical egalitarianism, secularism, and man as god. The American Revolution stood for freedom derived directly from God, the dignity of mankind, and an government modeled on the Trinity (Judge, King, Lawgiver).
The Canadian government threw God out of their system long before it was even contemplated in America. They have become a secular socialistic society as has most of Europe.
I could go on a rant about our "culture"
( Jay Leno had a joke about it years ago, when the French were worrying & whining about how our "McDonald's Culture" was going to ruin their pristeen European sensibilities, to wit, "Yeah, we wrecked our culture, and we're going to get yours, too!" )

I continue to find it amazing how in freeing Iraq and Afghanistan's 50 million people, that Leftists still imply that their women would be better off under the tyranny of the Taliban or the horrors of Hussein rather than the moderate governments that are now in place.
What the Left really seem to want is not to enslave just the women, but apparently ALL of us. That's the only reason I can see them embracing the likes of such monstrous persuasions.
If you support tyranny abroad then you support tyranny here as well. I think if you look at the policies of leftists in this country you find that this holds true.
Bluntness should always be associated with truth which is why the left is never truthful. They fear offending the identity groups they are using as a means to their ends. Curiously enough their ends have not been defined. I suspect that in light of the fact that Marx had no higher goal than the revolution, the revolution is only what they see.
