Yes, how many times must a man look up
Before he can see the sky ?
Yes, how many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry ?
Yes, how many deaths will it take till he knows
That too many people have died ?
The answer my friend is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind.
All we are saying is give peas a chance
All we are saying is give peas a chance
Where have all the young men gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the young men gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the young men gone?
Gone for soldiers every one
When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?
Where have all the soldiers gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the soldiers gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the soldiers gone?
Gone to graveyards every one
When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?
All we are saying is give peas a chance
All we are saying is give peas a chance

I get put down for reporting a story and this guy gets a thead? Give me a break. Destroy this troll!
I'm don't have hurt feelings for my Admin intervention, but I'm still a little miffed. I'm a good FReeper and I just try to get things out there. Where is the Admin Mod when they are needed. Just like cops, I suppose.

The only thing wrong with the arrival of Katrina was the lack of response, both by individuals and local governments alike.
If the toll of deaths is anywhere near accurate at the moment, it is astonishingly light, considering the stunning incompetence displayed by Nagin and the Governor.
Although hindsight is twenty-twenty, it shows surprising lack of foresight to not locate generators and pumps in areas above the flood level.
Europe is facing similar problems of a rising sea not only in the Netherlands, but in the Mediterranean as well. Venice may be lost regardless of their efforts.
Even so, one could learn from them. Lake Pontchartrain, (actually a tidal estuary), should have flood gates to let the storm surges batter at them, instead of the dikes, (excuse me, levees.)
In my local area, no building is permitted in flood areas. Why should New Orleans think they can repeal reality?

Good night, IT. :-)

Why should New Orleans think they can repeal reality?Good question. Why does any heavily-developed coastal area think they can repeal reality? They play the odds; every year, most of the coast is NOT hit by a major hurricane. And if the law of averages get them, the taxpayer subsidizes their rebuilding in the same d*mn place.
But the dead people are still dead.

I think it is mockingly understating it to say that some of those people could have been saved.
The me-first attitudes and greed of those who could have made a difference cost many innocent people their lives.
Would that the colossal effrontery used to point accusatory fingers at the Feds had been directed at the storm instead.
Pictures of buses stranded in water and impoverished people beseeching transportation will be hard to sweep under the sodden rugs of the New Orleans political machine offices.

Well, Kiddies, I have to take my tired little brain to bed. Take care all of you, and don't solve all the worlds' problems tonight...save some for tomorrow, when I'll be here to help!
XO to all of you!

I'm going to take myself away from here for a while and write a chapter seventeen for a book that currently only has three chapters.
It's like jumping ahead to the dessert course. I might even post excerpts of it here when it's finished.
You'll see why.
