CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- Two foster parents are accused of putting a 9-year-old girl in a dog cage as a form of discipline.
The Clinton Township couple is expected to face charges of second-degree child abuse Friday for the alleged incident, according to Local 4.
Police said the girl asked permission to go to a friend's home, but the foster parents would not allow her to go. The child ran away, and the foster parents went to retrieve the girl from the neighbor's house, Local 4 reported.
The parents then allegedly put the child in a large dog crate and left the house for about an hour in an attempt to teach her a lesson, according to the station's report.
The parents returned and released the girl, who returned to the neighbor's house and told them what occurred. The neighbors called police.
The girl and another child who live in the foster home were placed in protective custody. The children were not harmed, according to Local 4.
Neighbor Eric Gochlowski said the discipline allegedly used by the foster parents would have never entered his mind.
"That's uncalled for," said Goclowski. "I can't even think of using my hand to discipline my kid, let alone stick him in a box."
Recently my SIL gave us a kennel to put our little dog in at night--she's been sneaking into the living room and peeing. Anyway, I had the thing out in the backyard letting it dry after I cleaned it out. My 8 year old and 3 year old are out there with the 3 year old in it. The 3 year old is totally nude in a dog kennel. I told the 8 year old, "get him out of there" to which he replied, "he likes it in there" and it was true he did like it in there. I decided against taking any pictures though.
Frankly I had the sarcasm switch on. I know people who treat their dogs better than kids.....
I learned my lesson!
At least now we know what Billy Bob Thornton has been up to since Angelina Jolie dumped him.
My Dad did that to my older brother because he was always wandering away in the food store. All the "do-gooders" thought it was cruel... Until a few months later, when a kid was run over in the parking lot.
My daughter is always getting into the cages at the clinic and curling up with a cuddable cat or dog that is boarding. She's been known to stay in there all morning or an entire afternoon. I figure its good for the both of them.
In an old photo album, in an old desk drawer, is a picture of me (age 3) at Gettysburgh, Pa. wearing a harness w/ a leash attached and my mother smiling as she holds the leash.
Back inthe 60's, people could actually buy these things to keep a grip on their kids while the kids hands were free.
Years later, when I commented on the "leash", my mother said that she did it for me because she couldn't stand to see kids beings dragged around with their arms up in the air for hours.
Too bad all of mine would proceed to sit down and refuse to move when I tried the harness on them!!
But you would be shocked at the number of people who felt free to come up and berate me because I had a harness on my youngest niece.
At two she had what you might call "poor impulse control" and I lived in fear that she would dart into traffic or run up to a strange dog or some other danger. She was quick and once she decided to run she could be half way down the block before you could move. I decided I would have rather been berated by morons then risk something happening to her.
Oh. . .okay.
Three hots and a cot...er...two bowls and some straw. In any event she had a 'room with a view'.
In the late 60's when my son was three, I lost him in a Montgomery Wards store. He could dart under clothes racks and disappear in a heartbeat. The store was located in a busy corner shopping center with tons of traffic. When I finally found him, I was shaking with fear. I immediately bought a leash. A very well-dressed man came up to me and berated me for having him on the leash within one minute. Still shaking inside, I just walked away with my darling boy safely in tow. Never forgot it.
When my son is throwing a crying fit, I send him to his room where he is only allowed to STAND next to his bed until he is done with his fit.
He has learned that using crying fits will get him nowhere but stuck in his room and not able to play. He rarely ever has fits anymore
Dogs go for walks, cats opt for the drag scenario. Never figured it out. Always quit the cat drag before the front door :)
Yeah, nude AND in a kennel might have gotten you put away!
LOL!
