LIVE THREAD: H.O.T. CHAPTER'S CRAWFORD SUPPORT PRES. AND TROOPS RALLY (8/13/05)

Posted on 08/13/2005 6:55:59 AM PDT by kristinn

The Heart of Texas Chapter of FreeRepublic.com is holding a rally in Crawford, Texas today to show America's support for our troops, President Bush and the war on terrorists in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere around the world.

The rally will be held at noon at the Crawford Civic Center at 1000 4th Street.

Freepers are coming from near and far to join the H.O.T. Chapter in Crawford. If you live within four hours drive of Crawford, it's not too late to hit the road and get on down there.

Folks in attendance will be calling in to me, Brad's Gramma and Jeff Head with live updates from the scene. I am told that cellphone coverage in Crawford is spotty. However, it may have gotten better of late.

We'll see.

Hat's off to Basil, Doctor Raoul, The Sarce and 2ndAmendmentMama (and anyone else) who've been scrambling the past two days to make this happen. Good luck!

Mostly a lurker here. I got notice of this event via Austin TownHall Conservatives email list. I had thought of going earlier in the week when it seemed the Killeen and Waco radio stations were organizing events. But when I heard that was canceled I was a bit bummed. Then I got an email about this get-to-gether

It would have been nice if there had been co-ordination with the Dallas crew, all in all it was a good event. Well worth my time considering what my peers are doing in Iraq/Afghanistan/Phillipenes etc. for me and all Americans. I was there merely to support our guys and the president.

Obviously this is all being viewed through the Sheehan prism. Those who attended, lets put our words into further action and donate phone cards, care packages and additional time to the men and women serving our country.

Thanks for the event!

This letter was read to us from one of the Marine Moms, addressed to us from her son. She has three sons, two in the Marines and one in the Army.

They have all served in Iraq.

Ladies and Gentlemen August 13, 2005

Thank you for bringing a rational voice to the events unfolding in the shrub brush

of Crawford Texas. I would like to share with you the meaning of our mission in Iraq.

During my time here I witnessed the literal scars of oppression and genocide

inflicted upon the innocent by the brutal Hussein regime. 400,000 souls were poured into

the sand like soured milk. 400,000 men, women, and children lying beneath the desert to

anonymously while away the centuries. Placing aside for a moment my personal beliefs

in the national necessity of our actions in Iraq, I believe that history would have harshly

judged our inaction. Remember that there was an anti-War voice during World War II

but photographic evidence of Auschwitz and Bierkenau's liberation washed away all

doubts. History has rightly judged the American G.I for standing against such evil.

While less in numbers, the genocide in Iraq was no less a crime against humanity. I

witnessed the extended bellies of starving babies, touched the gnarled flesh of tortures

past, and heard the grief in the stories of loved ones lost.

I do not pretend that I could ever understand the grief of a parent who has lost a

child, but I've seen pain before. Grief was in the face of a man who lost his entire

family in one unfathomable day. Seventeen members of his family including his wife,

children, and parents were slaughtered at the behest of Saddam Hussein. His entire town

was wiped from the face of the Earth like a dune in an all too common sandstorm. When

this man offers me a hand of friendship how can I believe anything but that our cause is

just.

Thank you for your rigorous and enduring support of those who server their

country, and know that their bravery and courage serves all of humanity.

Thank you. I feel like I've been beat up from the driving but I'm ready to go again. This was my 3rd Support Troops rally and if anyone has never gone - you don't know what you're missing.

My daughter is twelve and she stayed so composed and proud with her head up looking directly across the road at the Cindy crowd. Actually all three of my girls did. They made their own posters. Here is their picture - don't know how to make it larger.
