This from the official Oklahoma State historical site:
The name "Oklahoma" comes from the Choctaw words: "okla" meaning people and "humma" meaning red, so the state's name literally means "red people."
According to the NCAA, the state can probably keep it's name, but OU and OSU will be very disappointed when the NCAA requires that the schools themselves be renamed.
According to the NCAA, no indigenous person can be offended, so the very name of the school must be changed.
I suggest The University of Great Football Teams and The "We're In A Boring Town State University."

Just disband the idiotic NCAA and be done with it. Fire every last stinking one of those idiots and ignore them and start a new organization.
This bullshit needs to stop now.

Perhaps New Jersey or New York...maybe Rhode Island; the rest of our country unfortunately seems to be politically incorrect. Nope. Won't work. Rhode Island is named after some red chicken. So the PC Police and PETA will get their knickers twisted. haha

The ever so PC Disney Company built Disney World in Osceola County. Oooops! I'm sure Disney will be attacked by someone representing Pirates and talking mice. By the way, why doesn't D.Duck wear pants?

fire Miles Brand. What kind of name is Brand? Decendent of people who tortured animals with strage shaped burn marks?

The Redskins have had lawsuit after lawsuit filed against them because of the teams name. Last I hear, some "head-up-his-rear-end" circuit judge told the Skins they had to change it.

Methinks the NCAA...possibly losing numerous member schools. This is the key. Please, please let some big schools (Florida???) tell the NCAA where to get off the bus. It really is time for a compeing league to begin.

I called the NCAA office late Thursday afternoon and told them as a Scandinavian American I was offended by the use of the term "Viking" and that my four children were of Irish American descent and I had to also insist that they not use the term "Fighting Irish".
Left my phone number, no return calls yesterday.

The name "Oklahoma" comes from the Choctaw words: "okla" meaning people and "humma" meaning red, so the state's name literally means "red people." That translation is, itself, somewhat "politically correct".
Actually, Oklahoma comes from the Ponca language and a full translation is "Land of red dirt and bad water, where red man get sick and die".

ANuone know how the NCAA is funded?
Weren't they an organization made up of member colleges to make rules for sports uniform for all games? Just guessing here.
It would be interesting if their funding shrunk real fast.
