Johnson, Carter and Clinton all have been lousy. Johnson was a crook, Carter was inept, and Clinton was a traitor.

In my lifetime it would have to be FDR, the bringer of socialism to America.

Whatever his faults, I give FDR credit for the fact that you are not speaking German and I (an American Jew) am alive.

I have never, ever, been ashamed of being American, not even during the Carter administration.

Of course not- but that was the prevailing sentiment in the media (the only media) and the general public. The undoing of that attitude was Ronald Reagan's First Miracle.

As I believe the Confederacy was in fact a sovreign nation with a right to defend it's borders, I do not refer to the war as the "Civil War", because refering to it as a Civil War implies that there was only one country, and that the South was not right in her assertion that she could indeed withdraw from the Union and that she had the right to defend her borders.

And as for Buchanan, as I have said before, what could he have done. Northern interests were absolutely intent on forcing a war. Supporters of big government wanted the war, because they understood the implications, all these going back to the Jackson-Calhoun South Carolina issues of 1832. And as for Southerners, well, they saw that the Northerners were intent on forcing a confrontation, and well, at some point, a man has got to be willing to fight for his home, for his country.

Fort Sumter was sovreign Confederate territory,

The Union had a deed. The ground was bought and paid for. Sorry but that does not wash

CLINTON by far and for the following:

2 for 1 deal - we got both him and Hillary and we're still paying for it.

The illegal actions he committed during his presidency including the sell out to the Chicoms

The unforgiveable disrespect he brought into the White House and for the office he represented!

What did FDR do for Jews besides turn them away from our shores?

Well put. I was deliberating between Clinton and Carter, but you made the choice easy.

Jimmah was not only dumb but he was also corrupt vs your post #116. The problem with the Shah of Iran was that JC was trying to shake him down for a kickback on some USA moneys and the Shah would not shake. JC sided with Kohmeini (sp?) and the Shah was gone.

Ann Coulter says if you do the opposite of what JC is talking about then you are doing the right thing.

FDR and his VP, the real live commie named Henry Wallace, friend and mentor of Mrs. FDR. FDR had numerous commies right up there at the top as advisors. FDR gave us all the socialistic programs that still plague the nation.

Herbert Hoover, the architect of the great depression

You might want to brush up on that revisionist history

The fact that a (R) follows his name makes him the scapegoat

The Federal Reserve isn't all that independent in practice, especially in its "youth" in the 1920's. I have read that Hoover did direct the Fed to kill the stock market with higher margin rates. And I've read from many different sources including transcripts of his press conferences that he directed the wage support program that led to massive unemployment. Theoretically Hoover believed in less government as many conservatives do today, however he seemed to feel that he wasn't meddling as long as the meddling wasn't official, and as an engineer by trade he just couldn't help himself. He also raised taxes right before facing reelection.

My take is that he was a horrible president (it was his first and only elected office) and he owns the Great Depression, though he led an exemplary and very accomplished life before that.

I was not aware of that.

Thank you for correcting me.
