DC has some of the strictest gun control laws in the US and the highest crime rate, and the liberal elite blames neighboring Virginia, with less strict gun laws and a much lower crime rate.

As an Ontarian, I agree with you. Blaming the USA is crazy. Quite frankly law enforcment in Canada should be working closely with the ATF, FBI et.al. to deal with this and other issues such as the WOT and not just holding meetings about it.

This Jane/Finch area of Toronto has been a problem for years in Toronto. Keep in mind, Toronto is a fairly safe city and I would recommend a visit.

All we have to do is strickly enforce all of the laws and properly control the borders with the existing gun laws .... and ... may I dare say ... remove that stupid gun registry for the honest farmers and hunters in our great country and spend that money on extra law enforcement and programs to help youth in troubled areas.

The author of the article noted sarcastically that if the US ever became like Canada, the Canadian Left would beg Al-Qaeda to bomb the country into oblivion. Being anti-American is all that keeps their identity separate. If the two countries pursued the same liberal policies, there would be no more need for Canada.

I've been to Toronto quite a few times. Its a lovely and well kept city. But its mayor and Ontario's Premier would be well advised to crack down on crime at home. Not guns - but crime. The root cause of crime are criminals. Something that be obvious to Ontarians - especially those of the Liberal Party persuasion.

I blame it on the hockey lockout. Without that avenue of escape, those hosers have a ton of pent-up aggression. Good news though, with the resumption of hockey this fall, the Molson's will flow, the incidents of armed aggression will fall, and our mealy-mouthed neighbors to the north can return to their socialist, pacifist ways.

In the US at least, most apparent gun problems are actually drug problems. A rational set of drug laws would eliminate 90% of them. Legalize anything demonstrably no more harmful than booze on the same basis as booze, ban the Jeckyl/Hyde formulas like PCP, and make perscription drugs out of everything else. That would eliminate 75% of all urban crime in a single stroke.
