ORILLIA, Ontario, August 11, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Notorious Canadian abortionist and abortion activist, Henry Morgentaler, in his acceptance speech after being awarded the Annual Couchiching Award for Excellence in Public Policy Leadership, claimed the so-called campaign to legalize abortion continues despite opposition from religions, like the Catholic Church, which he referred to as a “bastion of patriarchy” and an “opponent of women's rights.”
“The struggle of women for emancipation and equal rights as well as for rights specific to women such as control over reproduction and the freedom to make those decisions, has come up against thousands of years of patriarchy, embodied and represented by religion,” Morgentaler claimed in his speech at the prestigious 74th annual Couchiching Conference in Orillia Friday.
The abortionist continued, “Most of the great religions were created thousands or hundreds of years ago, in patriarchal societies, and to this day, with few exceptions, they are the bastions of patriarchy and opponents of women's rights…If you look at the Catholic Church for example you see a 2 thousand year-old institution which does not allow women to feel equal to men by denying them access to the priesthood and is adamantly opposed to a woman's right to abortion.”
Morgentaler specified that the Catholic Church and the Muslim religion specifically were two prime examples of such institutions: “The Catholic Church is not the only male-dominated religion opposed to women's rights; the Muslim religion is equally opposed. It is no wonder that, in most countries dominated by these two religions, women are oppressed and denied fundamental human rights, of which the right to abortion is only the most visible example.”
In a continuation of his anti-religious tirade, Morgentaler, a prominent member of the atheistic Humanist movement added, “I think that laws based on supposedly holy books like the Bible should be examined critically and removed if shown to be unjust and obsolete.”
Morgentaler argued that abortion is the reason for Canada’s diminishing crime rate: “Fewer unwanted children are being born, consequently fewer babies are being abused, neglected, or brutalized, with a result that fewer young men grow up with a rage in their heart which leads to violence.”
“How conveniently utilitarian,” wrote Interim writer Charles Moore in an editorial written after Morgentaler made an identical statement in 1998. “Abortion as the solution to crime! Why didn't I think of that? If we carry that rationale to its logical conclusion, why don't we abort all children of disadvantaged or potentially abusive parents?”
Not content to be the instigator of infanticide alone, Morgentaler also called for legalization of euthanasia and for an end to religious hospitals, which he blamed for an unjust restriction to abortion. “There is no more reason why hospitals should be denominational and impose religious restrictions, which limit access to medical care such as contraception and abortion.”
Pro-lifer Maria LeBlanc, in a letter to the editor responding to Morgentaler acceptance speech wrote, “I’d hate to meet Morgentaler in the hereafter. It’s going to be long.”
The Couchiching Institute awards dinner is attended by influential and wealthy Canadians and prominent government representatives. There is no indication so far that any of them objected to the Canadian abortionist’s speech which many observers would classify as hate speech.

Sometimes, no comment is the best comment. I defer to this single line as indicative of the moral state of society.

Morgentaler seems to be a man on a mission.
Morgentaler, who enjoys the Jewish culture, is a self-proclaimed secular humanist. He’s a Holocaust survivor, and “he was also quite a womanizer,” which many people might not know. Knowing he would be incriminated for his actions, he willingly put his freedom at risk and was jailed for his commitment to his cause; he suffered a heart attack while in prison.
Morgentaler is best known as the pro-choice activist who defied the Quebec government by turning his Montreal family practice into a family planning clinic that also conducted abortions. In 1973, he performed an abortion which aired on the CTV current affairs program W5. After the show aired on Mother’s Day of that year, his clinic was raided and he was brought to trial. Although the jury acquitted him, the Quebec Court of Appeal, in an unprecedented move, reversed the verdict, and Morgentaler was sent to jail for 18 months.

A Message From Henry
At a time when access to safe, medical abortion is being threatened by murderous attacks on doctors providing this service, it would be worthwhile to recapitulate the enormous benefits that legal abortion has brought about. I think one of the most important consequences is the declining violent crime rate. This decline has lasted for six years in Canada and the United States.
Is there a relationship between the statistically proven decline in crime rates and access to abortion? For the last six years, in both the United States and Canada, the crime rate has steadily decreased, in particular crimes of violence such as assault, murder and rape. Some demographers explain this by the fact that there were fewer young men around, and it is mostly young men who commit crimes. No doubt this is true, but what is even more important is that among these young men likely to commit offences there are fewer who carry an inner rage and vengeance in their hearts from having been abused or cruelly treated as children. Why is that? Because many women who a generation ago were obliged to carry any pregnancy to term now have had the opportunity to choose medical abortion when they were not ready to assume the burden and obligations of motherhood. It is well documented that unwanted children are more likely to be abandoned, neglected and abused. Such children inevitably develop an inner rage that in later years may result in violent behaviour against people and society. Crimes of violence are very often perpetrated by persons who unconsciously want revenge for the wrongs they suffer as children. This need to satisfy an inner urge for vengeance results in violence against children, women, members of minority groups or anyone who becomes a target of hate by the perpetrator.
Children who are given love and affection, good nurturing and a nice supportive home atmosphere usually grow up to become caring, emotionally responsible members of the community. They care about others because they have been well cared for. Children who have been deprived of love and good care, who have been neglected or abused, suffer tremendous emotional harm which may cause mental illness and difficulty in living and an inner rage which eventually erupts in violence when they become adolescents and adults.
Most of the serial killers were neglected and abused children, deprived of love. Both Hitler and Stalin were cruelly beaten by their fathers and carried so much hate in their hearts that when they attained power they caused millions of people to die without remorse. It is accepted wisdom that prevention is better than a cure. To prevent the birth of unwanted children by family planning, birth control and abortion is preventative medicine, preventing psychiatry and prevention of violent crime.
I predicted a decline in crime and mental illness 30 years ago when I started my campaign to make abortion in Canada legal and safe. It took a long time for this prediction to come true. I expect that things will get better as more and more children are born into families that want and desire them, and receive them with joy and anticipation.
Pity he doesn't criticize the "religion of peace." Coward. I'll bet he's most solicitous and polite around those wonderful denizens of Kanuckistan's multicultural paradise.
Strikes me that Canadians generally are suffering from a mental illness, and it has gotten much, much more severe over the past 30 years.

Morgentaler is a slave to the same demonic entity as Kevorkian. In the guise of his oh-so-lofty humanism, he's decided that God can't handle this human destiny thing, so he's going to make the decisions for Him. Listen to his reasoning- It sounds like the plot from the movie Minority Report, except he defines "pre-crime" as a baby assaulting a mother's womb
