My postage scale says to use 6 cents for each ounce of 1st class and 10 cents for air mail; still works fine, calibrate it with pennies and quarters.

postage meter scales? will they count my powder measure scales as paraphenelia as well?
no wait.. that's probably under bomb making material, along with the couple pounds of powder and the primers.

2 ounces is a LOT of pot. A dealable quantity, even if he didn't have his baggies and scale out.

I've got a powder scale for reloading. Guess I'm a felon.

2 oz of pot, bags and postage scales? It does sound like he was dealing a bit, but not exactly big time. Hardly seems to justify a no-knock shoot first and ask questions later type of raid, though.

Yea, I guess it sounds that way if you ignore the 2 ounces of pot and the fact that they'd done a controlled drug buy from the house before getting a warrant.
I think the war on drugs is way out of control, but police need to be able to enforce the law, and a swat team doesn't look much like the local gang trying to shake you down.
It sounds like he ran from the police and grabbed his gun. That's a fatal mistake.

Shooting him was excessive.
This is no excuse, but I think most PD's are not really that well trained for this. They "act" like studs but are amatures.

Sorry to disagree, but pointing his gun at the storm-troopers is what got him killed. The dope, scales and baggies would have just gotten him a slap on the wrist, a fine and probably cost him some property like his car.
2 Oz, scales and baggies could indicate he was a small-time dealer, definately not grounds for a no-knock raid. Then again maybe he just buys bulk, a Costco and Sam's stoner type.
Regardless, is the world a better place with this man in jail or dead? Or would we be better off simply taxing and regulating the production and distribution of products idiots use to waste their lives? A say the latter.

I have a postage meter scale in my pantry, sandwich bags in a kitchen drawer, a cigarette lighter on the desk in front of me, dollar bills in my pocket book, drinking straws in a kitchen drawer, ashtrays in every room, cigarettes in various locations, potting soil in my garage, an empty toilet paper roll in the garbage, aluminum foil in a kitchen drawer, screens on my windows, rubbing alcohol in my medicine chest, spoons in a kitchen drawer, a mirror over the bathroom sink, a razor blade in my sewing kit, an alligator clip in my nuts & bolts box, and unspecified firearms in unnamed locations. I hope it doesn't get me killed.
