Man killed by Sunrise police in drug raid had 2 ounces of marijuana

SUNRISE -- Police seized 2 ounces of marijuana at the home of Anthony Diotaiuto after shooting him 10 times, according to information on the drug raid released Tuesday.

Also Tuesday, while many friends and relatives of the 23-year-old bartender and student mourned him at a Davie funeral home, others appeared at a Sunrise City Commission meeting to demand an explanation for the fatal raid

"Do 2 ounces of marijuana constitute a death warrant?" asked Sunrise resident William de Larm, a friend of Diotaiuto's.

The WoD has used up any benefits JBTs might have accrued. The only independent verification that the SWAT team did not just want some trigger time is cooling on a slab. We are supposed to trust people who look at everyone who isn't carrying a "get out of jail free" badge as "them"?

The thing is though that this would have never happened if the SWAT team hadn't have come to his home. They had a small time pot dealer here. They had a controlled buy so they had enough to convict him for delivery. They could have just picked him up at work and then sent officers over to search the home. Sending a team of guys with automatic weapons and ninja suits was unnecessary. One or two uniformed or plain clothed officers could have picked him up at work, without a big uproar. For that matter they could just execute the search warrant at his home while he was at work and then dropped by or called his work and asked him to turn himself in when he got off work. That may sound crazy but officers where I live often call people and tell them to turn themselves in. It's saves the defendant's the embarrassment of neighbors or coworkers seeing them taken away in cuffs, and it saves the cops from having to go out and make the arrest. This guy had two jobs, a house with a mortgage, and a mother there tying him to the area so he wasn't likely to run over a small time pot bust. These military style police tactics we are using more and more in this country are causing unnecessary deaths, sometimes to innocent people. We'll only see more of this the more they militarize police.

Perspective is important and there are NO inordinate numbers in any report which reflects a systematic abuse of police power. Many officers faithfully perform their duties with the highest degree of integrity through out their careers and anyone who challenges this Fact, is uninformed and has no credibility.

Of course you can cite credible evidence for making this allegation in this specific case, right? Or do you subscribe to the belief that 'it isn't the evidence, but the seriousness of the charges that matter'?

Logical fallacy: guilt by association. Try harder to come up with some logic that will justify outlawing a naturally occuring plant less harmful than alcohol or tobacco.
