Aug. 9, 2005 | Cindy Sheehan, the angry 48-year-old mom from Vacaville, Calif., whose son died while serving in the Army in Iraq and who has been staging a lonely bring-the-troops-home vigil outside President Bush's ranch beneath the baking Texas sun, has clearly become a thorn in the president's vacationing side. Putting a public and empathetic face on the war's toll in America, Sheehan, whose son, Casey, was killed in April 2004, has posed a very simple request to Bush: Come out and talk to me about Iraq and why my son died. .........
Taking peculiar pleasure in trying to discredit the small-town mother, right-wingers have been in a tizzy over what they perceive as a flip-flop by Sheehan on Iraq. They excitedly reassure themselves that her alleged inconsistency about the war ought to disqualify her from being a legitimate war critic. Problem is, the oddly playful bloggers, busy mocking Sheehan as a "crazy," "exploited," "left-wing moonbat," aren't really staring down a lone mother who may or may not have shifted her opinion about Bush and the war since 2004.
.......Over the weekend conservatives at the Free Republic unearthed a June 25, 2004, article from Sheehan's hometown newspaper, the Reporter, which detailed Sheehan's visit with Bush at Fort Lewis near Seattle earlier that month. Portions of the article suggested Sheehan was grateful for her time with Bush, in contrast with her current complaints about him. Freepers then passed along the clip to Matt Drudge, who talked about it on his Sunday-night syndicated radio show. On Monday morning he hyped his analysis on his Web site, concluding that Sheehan "has dramatically changed her account about what happened when she met the commander-in-chief last summer!"

She lasted less than two minutes on Bruce Jacobs in the Morning here on KFYI.
Who is Eric Boehlert, and where did he get such an inane view of Ms. Sheehan's activities? How reasonable is it to request a private audience with the President of the United States, so that she can blast his policies?
PaulaB, you and your family are Great Americans. Just make sure your son finishes College if it within your means!
I will say Cindy Sheehan could use some Crest White Stips.
O'Reilly brought this up last night. Apparently she will be on his show tonight.
No she wont.
He might actually ask her gently probing questions about her two wildly different accounts of her meeting with Bush.
She cant handle even the lukewarm heat OReilly would throw at her.
Shell only appear on shows where the interviewer will be strictly fawning and sycophantic. Like 99% of the mainstream media.
This woman is a gibbering lunatic. Her son was a Boy Scout, Eagle Scout. Apparently quite religious. He volunteered for the mililtary and was apparently happy even eager to go to Iraq (from other family members' accounts.)
This woman has been rejected by her husband and probably the rest of her family--probably even her son before he died.
She sees his death as a ticket to celebrity-dom. She is a) sick b) disgusting.
Why should the President give this woman ANOTHER meeting with her if she has already exposed her bad faith in requesting it?
Maybe people handle grief differently, but I know when I was in shock over my dad's death I was more likely to say mean things or run off at the mouth a bit than to overly praise most people.
Gimmee a break -- you can legitimately question all kinds of things about the story, but how is this even a question? That's one thing we know for sure.
Come out and talk to me about Iraq and why my son died
Actually, the reporter deliberately misrepresents it. It's more like "Tell me why you killed my son."
Cindy's having a hard time being angry at her son for dying, so she is redirecting her anger. That she is pissing on her son's grave in the process hasn't dawned on her yet.
If her brave soldier son were still here, he would be sooo ashamed of his mother ...
It looks that way, doesn't it?
"Who is Eric Boehlert?"
When he isn't naval gazing for that powerhouse media organ, Salon, he can be found holding forth at such places as Alternet and Think Peace.
He is a nobody dweeb, who like Cindy is trying to cash in on the death of a brave soldier for a little attention.
If she hasn't yet, she'll be on Oprah.
I thought she was from Vacaville, which is closer to Davis.
