Are we stretched that thin? Or is that what the U.S. military would have are enemies in the region beleive...to bait them out, and have them play their hand on our terms. IMHO, are latest troop build up in Iraq and Afgahnistan...has more to do with Iran than any worries over insurgent attacks during the installment of the new Iraqi Constitution...but I am not at CENTCOM...so...that's merely a guess.

Plus-Iran is much smaller than Iraq...we have people prepositioned, and we'll be able to take a more "gloves off" approach to those jokers...

Did I miss something?

Like someone else said earlier...this would be a lot tougher than Iraq.

Actually, Iran is significantly larger than Iraq (1.648 million sq km vs. 437,072 sq km), has more harsh terrain (quite mountainous), and more people (68,017,860 (July 2005 est.) vs. 26,074,906 (July 2005 est.)). This would not be a cakewalk at all. A conflict with Iran would be a large-scale, long-term operation and should not be taken lightly.

Also bear in mind that a simple air-strike could escalate very quickly into a ground war, as Iran is right next door to where our troops are stationed. Action cannot be taken without the willingness for an epic battle. The American people are war-weary already over Iraq, which would seeem like a police action compared to taking on the mullahs. The President and the military brass understand this, which is why they're proceeding carefully (and the Iranians understand it too, which gives them bravado they would not otherwise have).

Wow. Just wow. We haven't even stabilized all of Afghanistan, and we aren't even close to stabilizing all of Iraq, and you're suggesting we are failing in that mission on purpose-- part of a clever ruse to trick Iran prior to our assault on them?

Iran, actually, is -more than- three times bigger than Iraq (1.636 million sq km of land vs. 432,162 sq km. Nearly 3 times more people, too. They have a ridiculous number of draft-eligible young men. And, the Iranians are far crazier than the Iraqis or the Taliban-- they, by the thousands, crossed Iraqi minefields in the Iran-Iraq War, so the mines would be "disabled" for attack by Iranian soldiers. Poison gas didn't even deter their desire to give their lives for Allah. We'll have suicide bombers in every town in America-- the Iranians have the terrorist connections to pull off all kinds of chaos against us.
