Beleaguered talk-show host Larry Krueger has lost his job at KNBR -- and two other station employees also were fired late Tuesday night.
Longtime program director Bob Agnew and Tony Rhein, the producer of KNBR's morning show, were let go by the station. The announcement was made around 10:15 p.m. Tuesday in a statement issued by senior vice president Tony Salvadore on KNBR's Web site.
On "Sportsphone 680" last Wednesday night, Krueger made reference to the Giants' "brain-dead Caribbean hitters hacking at slop nightly." That led to Krueger getting a suspension that was due to end this Monday.
Giants manager Felipe Alou refused to accept an apology from Krueger. Alou appeared on ESPN's "Outside the Lines" program Monday night and called Krueger "this messenger of Satan, as I call this guy now. ... And I believe there is no forgiveness for Satan."
On Tuesday morning, KNBR aired Alou's sound bite from "Outside the Lines" and then parodied it with Satan references from the Comedy Central show "South Park."
That apparently was the impetus for Rhein's dismissal -- and might have had something to do with the termination of Agnew, who had been with KNBR since 1989.

Never thought I'd do it, but I got tickets for Friday night's game in Oakland.
Go A's....
Man, I gave up on KNBR after Frank Dill left.
I was glad when Mike left....
Time to fire Alou. That "messenger of Satan" stuff is so over the top it destroys his credibility. The skipper is supposed to calm things down, not stir things up. Maybe they need to get someone in their who'll stay focused on winning games, not responding to stupid comments with greater degrees of stupidity.
Yeah, Mike was a real twit.
There used to be a distinct tension when Don Nelson was on-air with Frank, and Mike would break in with some dumba$$ question (that was also the last time I was interested in the Warriors).
So we can't refer to people as "Caribbean" now?
Only if you're a messenger of Satan....
Messenger of Satan? Who is the Giants manager, Felipe bin Laden?
WOW, The Girlie Men Are Running Sports Now.
I could not have said that any better than you just did!It is a crying shame we have to be sooooo careful not to tweak their cute little nosies or they will just get their panties in a wad!!
I grew up down there and never could understand why people loved the Giants while hating Oakland, especially since Oakland has been so successful. Lately they've been successful with one of the lowest payrolls in the league.
I love Oakland.
The irony in all of this is that Krueger actually praised Felipe as a "brilliant tactician" within a minute of the "Cream of Wheat" comment, claimed that the Giants' talent was "garbage", and explained that Felipe had tried everything to no avail and that his mind had turned to Cream of Wheat from the effort.
Krueger said some things that offended some people (without intent). Felipe set out intentionally to destroy Krueger in response. Felipe is a smaller man than I thought.

YES, I mean it. NO, it isn't racist. NO, I won't apologize.
Cream of Buckwheat....
Brain dead Felipe Alou hacking away at slop. I hate how often minorities can dish it out but can't take real world criticism> Krueger's jibes were right on
He ought to instead be concentrating on how to win ball games.
No kidding. The Bosox had the Queer Eye for the Straight Guy promotion earlier this year. I'm waiting for The Dolphins to have Gay Pride Day in Miami (at least they have the uniforms for it)....
The comments were thoughtless, but Felipe's response was completely over the top! As a previous poster said, Krueger had actually complimented Alou in the same segment. I know Tony Rhein personally, and have met Larry. They are both good people, with incredible senses of humor. Were they guilty of some bad judgement, yes. Did it warrant firing, He-- no! The days after the segment the Giants actually woke up and played decent ball for a couple of days. Maybe they needed the wake up call!
As i said, Larry's comments were thoughtless, but in what universe is it okay to call someone Satan, but not to criticize ballplayers? Since when did Caribbean become a racial slur? In hindsight I'm sure Larry wishes he'd just included all the players in his rant!
