Army Relieves General of His Command
August 8, 2005
On Aug. 8, the Chief of Staff of the Army directed the relief of Gen. Kevin P. Byrnes from his position as Commanding General, United States Army Training and Doctrine Command. The investigation upon which this relief is based is undergoing further review to determine the appropriate final disposition of this matter.
As the investigation into this is continuing, please discourage speculation from your Soldiers. LTG Jones will be the acting commander until LTG Wallace is confirmed as the new TRADOC commander.
My brother was a colonel assigned to TRADOC at Ft. Monroe. He's probably worked with these guys directly.
Career over. Retire now. Gone. Somebody did a big no-no. Woops.
He could be retired at his "permanent" rank. Just because he wears 4-stars, does not mean he is a 4-star general. His "permanent" rank could be one or two stars. He could be dropped back to that. Like Custer was. He was made a general, but after the Civil War, dropped back in rank.
He probably said he believes there is a God or claimed to be a CHRISTIAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There is no room in our military for people of faith - damn it if they want to go out and defend our country and put their life on the line then they should ultimate faith in themselves and liberal ideology. (sarcasm alert)
These things are almost always related to sex outside of marriage; either a subordinate or the spouse of another military member.
If it was financial problems or alcoholism, he would have just been reassigned or, more likely, just retired.
I worked at the Pentagon during the Clinton years. The whole place oozes conservatism. I loved working there.
The only problem there was that many high ranking officers were retiring because Ashley Wilkes and Billary were so difficult to work with, to get the military job done.
The only exception I found was in the medical area...a lot of liberals were in there. Not a majority, but that is where they clustered. ANd, even then, most were not Demoncrat liberals, just RINOs.
That would be true after a major war at the time and even through WW II. That was in the time when RA officers were not forced out if they did not advance. Promotionand retention policies are far different now.
My guess is that he is a permanent, but now only temporarily, a general. I still think he will lose two stars and be retired.
Bingo. Sexual harassment and theft are the only things people actually get fired for these days... and I really doubt he stole a tank. If it were any other offense, he'd be "stepping down to spend more time with his family."
Yeah my dad seems to think so as well. That's too bad, I thought highly of him.
No idea here, but were I a gambling man...
J4,
That's a good guess.
One too many DUIs might do it too.
If it is related to sex outside of marriage, it is not an unforgivable sin. If he changes, it is the Christian thing to forgive; especially if this was out of character. Even David got caught up in it.
If it is something that has been an long term and ongoing character problem, he deserves no compassion.
It's a fact of life in the military that sexual misconduct has severe consequences.
Doubtful. One DUI for a military officer will get you in serious trouble, no way he would have been promoted with any DUIs and getting a first one at age 50 something would be odd.
Hahaha Made me giggle like a school girl there... : ) <<< me
Also doubtful because 4Stars rarel drive themselves...they are in the back seat of a car with flags above the headlights.
Gen. Kevin P. Byrnes has been charged with failing to remove his shoes and prostrate himself when a detainee opened his Koran.
Holy Moly! This is big. Off the top of my head, I can't think of another Army 4-Star being relieved, openly, in the last 45 years. Probably one or two, I just can't think of any.
Wesley was brought back early from NATO.
Kernan was forced out at the end of his two years at Joint Forces Command.
Was it Warner (or Wagner) in Panama (SOUTHCOM) who was eased out for Mad Max Thurman just before we invaded?
We are certainly living in interesting times.
