Radio station to pay $240K over slapping contest
The Business Review (Albany) - 4:57 PM EDT Monday
A radio station has settled with state Attorney General Eliot Spitzer for $240,000 for the "Smackfest" slapping contests the station held with female contestants in 2004 and 2005.
Contestants could win up to $5,000 during the contests on WQHT Hot 97's in New York City, Spitzer said.
The attorney general said the promotions cross the line of entertainment and became abusive.
The settlement was the same size as the fine the station would have faced had it faced punishment from the state.
Emmis, based in Indianapolis, noted that the female contestants all competed voluntarily for prizes in its contests. But it also said that the contests where not "our finest hour" and that radio listeners in New York City deserved better.

How much would you pay a radio station to have the opportunity to smack Hitlery? I'd think she's worth at least a clinton issued $3 bill.

Some dumb chicks volunteer to get slapped, and the US government gets paid.
You fart, you sleep, you eat, you play hopscotch, the government gets paid.

Spitzer also investigates Air America mess. He is? That would be news, but isn't discussed in the posted article. Do you have a link?

Please. That is an old shock-jock standby.
The ickyest, most misogynist stunt I recall was the contest where the girls were to get in a 55gal drum while disgusting stuff was poured in on them (Opie & Anthony).

Hey, at least they have $250,000. Hairball America doesn't.
It's the difference between having listeners and not having listeners.

Ooooh! Thanks for the link. Somehow, knowing that Elliot Spitzer is on Air America's back, well it just gives me goosebumps!

Peanuts - compared to the $800,000 scandal going on at the leftist propaganda radio network...Air scAmerica may need to mug a few nuns if they expect to pay their staff this week. Recent articles state they couldn't meet payroll recently. Of course I didn't read anything about Al Franken taking paycut to help out things...I don't think they even pay Jeane Garafolo, do they?
