"Geezers" (slang for an old man) are easy to spot: At sporting events, during the playing of the Star Spangled BANNER, Old Geezers remove their caps and stand at attention and sing without embarrassment. They know the words and believe in them.
Old Geezers remember the Depression, World War II, Pearl Harbor, Guadalcanal, Normandy and Hitler. They remember the Atomic Age, the Korean War 1950-53-55, The Cold War, Vietnam, the jet age and the moon landing the 50 plus Peacekeeping Missions from 1945 to 2005 the Jet Age and the Moon Landing, not to mention Vietnam.
If you bump into an Old Geezer on the sidewalk, he will apologize. If you pass an Old Geezer on the street, he will nod or tip his cap to a lady. Old Geezers trust strangers and are courtly to women. Old Geezers hold the door for the next person and always, when walking, make certain the lady is on the inside for protection.
Old Geezers get embarrassed if someone curses in front of women and children and they don't like any filth on TV or in movies. Old Geezers have moral courage. They seldom brag unless it's about their grandchildren.
It's the Old Geezers who know our great country is protected, not by politicians or police, but by the young men and women in the military serving their country.
This country needs Old Geezers with their decent values. We need them now more than ever.
Thank God for Old Geezers!
I stand corrected. More like "hold court." Share knowledge, share techniques, share how to see the "big picture" and how it really does (or should) affect what everyone does on a daily basis.
Hoss's mom is that gorgeous Swedish woman, I forget her name: I liked those episodes where Lorne Greene dyes his hair black and they flashback to his marrying his three wives and Adam, Hoss and Joe being born.
Anyway, I think Hoss's name is Eric, from the episode where he is born, but I could be wrong.
Oh, Hoss's mom is named Inger, for extra credit! I just remembered.

By the way, I don't own the album, I just know the words. Don't ask me how or why... ;-)
Hillary.
Man, sometimes I hate FR -- my "trivia" is pretty much general knowledge.
Yes, according to the album: "my wife called him Eric, I called him Hoss."
If I had known I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself...
Nah your trivia question was excellent - even longtime Bonanza fans tend to not know that one. You pretty much had to see the episode where he was born to know it, or have the album (which I don't have but wish I did).
Man, that was a great show, huh? I always liked the disdain that the weekly bad guys would have for the Cartwright name. "Ugh! Those no good Cartwrights!!!" ;-)
A proud Geezer thanks you for this thread. What is it about again? :)
Ah, villians you could love to hate!
*sigh*
Now I have to hate the villians that hate us :(
Great thread, this one :)
Great post. Thanks (I've already stolen it and emailed to some good retro's.)
Dittoes RE: being a Retro, and 'scuse my ignorance, but what's an "endcap".
As far as learning directly from the source, I can "remember" most all of WW2, both the European and Pacific theatre.. Army and Navy..
As a child I heard countless tales of WW2, and eventually came to feel I "knew" it quite well..
Both the good and the bad..
So when I reference Hitler and the Nazis, it's not just "Godwin's Law", it's a visceral experience of "knowing" what Hitler and Nazi-ism means, what it represents..
It's why I believe in Freedom and Justice for all, and the Willingness to Fight for it..
It's why I believe in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights...
It's (one of the reasons) why I believe in God.. and Good.. and it's eminent triumph over evil..
Old Geezers ROCK! ;-)
I used to have a helmet sticker that said "My inner child is a nasty little f****r*"...;))
[I got in reaction to a friend's constant whining about his "wounded inner child...the guy was 6'4"/300 lbs for cryin' out loud]
Now my only helmet sticker is a bright yellow one that says "Caution: Does not play well with others"....:)
Oh *thanks* SK....I just turned 44 and really -needed- to be reminded of my age....;))
My two favorite old geezers were Jack Lemmon and Walter Matheau in "Grumpy Old Men"
Thanks. I calls myself an o'far'. I may be getting older, but, I refuse to grow up.
I learned a lot a those "Do unto others" things when I was growin' up. ' Course, I was a lucky one. I had a full time mom at home. She taught me right from wrong. An' I learned quick, 'cause she was little, but she had a temper.
God bless the geezers that brung up us geezers.
